IJONDON, Jilly 6 — (CP Cable) — Commander Edward Albert Gibbs, one of Britain's ace sub- marine klllers. was granted the third Bar to his Distinguished Ser- vice Order today, thus becoming the first man in this war to win the equivalent of four D.S.O.'s. It is also believed he is the first naval man ever to achieve this distinction.

The award was announced in the London Gazette and the cita- tion said only that it was granted "for courage and skill in success- iul actions against enemy sub- marines."

Gibbs won his 13.5.0. and the first Bar to the Order as com- mander oi the destroyer Fortune now f-I.M.C.S. Saskatchewan, one oi the four destroyers presented to the Canadian Navy by the Royal Navv last month.

The Fortune helped to escort the First and Third Divisions oi the Canadian Overseas Army to Britain.

Not since Waterloo had any war lasted more than five years, but as China embarks on her seventh year of struggle hei- indomitable loader, Chianf Kai-Slick, warns his compatriots that victory may not come until the e ghth.

Chinese resistance has been a tremendous contribution to the cause of the United Nations. llad China fallen, the task of heating Japan might have proved oven beyond the vast war-making capacity oi the United States and Britain. Foi- China, while fighting for survival, also has fou ht to retain the continental bases from which Japan can be blasted rom the air and ultimately invaded and crushed.
