One of the biggest losses was in the machinery with which the plant is equipped. One cublng machine. an importation from England, was among tboee danreatd. James wal- ton, manager of the plant, said it was the best equipped plant of its kind in these parts.

The fire, through the eflorts oi the firemen, was confined to the warehouse, and actual manufactur- ing section, a part that had been added to the original building. The store operated by the company and the office were undamaged except ior some smoke damage.

Digby Farmers Face Serious Hay Shortage

DIG-BY, N. S., Oct. P-Faced with a serious hay shortage, fishermen- farrners of Long Island will have to slaughter many of their cattle this winter. Considerable quantities oi hay have been imported from Saint John costing e20. a ton plus freight and trucking charges. lit ls almost impossible to buy hay on the island and farmers fear that the price will rise to $30 per ton for the winter season. Lose than 50 per cent of a normal crop was produced this year owing to drought conditions.
