In no time of her history has the latter country attempted so much for the former. A great part of the Session bas beex spent in discussing her wants, while important measures relative to Eogland and Scotland, to the great injury of both these countries, had to take second place. Doubtless the affairs of Incland were in a more deplorable condition, her needs | more pressing, imperatively demanding | close and speedy attention. But it seems that the Parnellites, who were loudest in demanding this attention to the wretched

tate of Ireland, and who were most zealous in proposiug remedies, have been | very care‘ul at the same time to oppose apy propositions of re.ief except thore advanced by themselves. Conduct such as this shows a want of sincerity in their cause, and bas dove not a little to alienate British sympathy from the Irish people. The Royal Templars of Temperance ia a beneficiary order and in addition to doing a general temperance work, offers ex- cellent ivdueements to the public of P. E, Islan i at moderate cost to obtain the bene- fits of insurance. The new order is now fairly before the public and we anticipate a large increase in membership for the com- ing year. A Trip to the Country.

}

Dear Six,—Only those who have escaped | from the scotching of a well regulated, | strictly disciplined, and thoroughly puri- | fied city like ours, can fully appreciatea'! residence in the free, bracing atwosphere of | the seaside; and to those who prefer nature | in its primeval beauty this lovely peninsula | affords a charming retreat during the hot! summer season. The people of Point, Prim are, as a rule, intelligent and most! hospitable; and though there is no hotel accommodation, yet there are homesteads in which, for a reasonable recompense, parties could have as many of the good things of this life as, combined with the exquisite gulf breezes, would build up a healthy frame, or strengthen a weak one. The lighthouse, lately improved upon, is worthy a visit; as also the several lobster factories, one of which (Mr. Murchison’s) we have visited, and deprived of a quantity of its canned contents.

On our way from town we entered and admired the Catholic church at Vérnon River, a striking monument to the liberality and perseverance of our Roman Catholic neighbors. The structure isa marvel on this island;and would net disgrace the more pretentious centres of art,

We passed the thriving viiliye of Mon- tague Bridge with its many additional buildings, and its varied churches; each veriiably “set upon a hill.” Trade in Montague does not appear to lag as in some other parts, and its site avugurs well for a gocd commercial future.

The creps seem to promise a_ plentiful supply for man and beast, though the hay yield is remarked aa somewhat deficient.

In passant we halted under the tine old trees which skirt the picturesque church- yard of Belfast.

I raise my eyes to catch a glimpse of the placid sea—the ever changeful, the still beautiful—whether in silvery calm, or in surging wrath.

‘Theré is a beauty in the pathless woods.” ‘*Yes,” interrupis a tiny mite at my elbow, “‘now when there’s- plenty of raspberries,” Which there are my son! Thank Him who supplies the cravings of our senses, whether it be to the satisfaction of our animal or of our spiritual nature; and who has promised that* ‘‘the-wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad, and the desert shall rejoice and ‘blossom as the rose.”
