League Changes Name

TEE hockey league on Prince Edward Island headed by Summerside‘s Dr. Hillard Clark has (hanged its name. It no longer is the Island Senior Hockey League but has now become the Island Intermediate ‘A‘ Hockey League. '

This decision was arrived at Sunday at Sunlmerslde when he league executive and team representatives met. The tact but no senior entry was expected from New Brunswick. plus he chance to have a later playoff with New Brunswick on an intermediate ‘A' basis brought about the decision to register intermediate 'A' with the Maritime Amateur Hockey Associa- don.

Ch ces that the island “inner will not go against New Brunswick until around March 20 made thingslook roSler for Island promoters. They figure they can ‘cut tlielr cloth azcord- 1neg and arrange league playoffs to suit such a date. Teams and rinks will get more hockey than if the team went into a senior bracket and the team on top at a certain date took off for mainland playdowns.

WE think this decision will probably work out for the best. If New Brunswick didn't have a senior club. it would mean the Island winner would go automatically Into the Maritime senior finals. While it would be all very nice to have such an honor. it would not put much_money into the pot for the rinks and players. It could have meant that the team representlng Prince Edward Island would have had only one home game in pay- downs.

In case folks are wondering how the league managed. to change its status. it is well to know that the league had NOT registered with the MAHA up to the time of Sundays r‘nccting. Now of course when the league registers it means that al teams are bound to the intermediate ‘A’ class. But this does not ind- clude Old Snain Penvuins who are a rezistcred ilinior club 'an. are playing in the island Leanne becaiise‘lhc Eagles. Combine. and “ovals have granted them that nl-ivdcge. V

Hawks Increase Lectd

CHICAGO Black Hawks were supposed to let Montreal Canadiens get in front of the National Hockey Leacue pack over the weekend but apparently nobody told the Windy City crew of the proposed plans. .

The Hawks went into Toronto Saturday night and won themselves a 4-1 decision despite the fact that Glenn Hall was a much busier man in nets than Leafs‘ Don Simmons. The Hawks followed this triumph with an easy victory over New York Rangers in Chicago on Sunday night. Leafs Take Dive
