DEATH OF CAPIAIN PAOLI.

By the death of Captain Paul Paoli, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, » | good citizen ie lost te the community. Captain Paoli hae for several yeara past eailed as master of the steamer May Queen, which he owned, and he slaaysreemed to be in excellent bealth. On Saturday afternoon, while doing sume work abou! the steamer, he felt himn-elf tecomirg week | aod Jeft fer his home. On the way up the wharf he fell. and was picked nv by some mep who tor k bem into the ¢ fice of Capt. Ronald McMillan, aad his sor, Me Simon Paoli, acconnt«nt with Poole Biew &, was summoved to his side by telephone, Med cal aid was ca!] div, and he soon recovered sufficiently to be driven io his home on Hilleborough street. Ujon his arrival there he walked from the sleigh o the house, apparently much improved. After enteriug the bouse he laid down upon a lounge, aud medical aid was agaio called in. The doctor saw tnat the end as ap- proaching, and the priest was brought to the house with al! possible despatch and the last rites of the church were adminis- tered. - Within half an hour after. Captain | Paoli’s arrival at his home the aprrit fled. Heart failure was the cause of death.

The fuueral of the deceased took place

this mornivg. and tbe large attendanve of mourning citizens evidenced the esteem in which he was held and the regret that

was caused by his unexpected death. The

pall-bearers were M. P. Hogav, William Dillon, Ronald MecMillaa, Thomas B. Riley, Thomas Z. Tayior and Jobn Lewis.

The services at thechurch and at the grave we're conducted by Rev. Dr. Morrison.
