The Liberal organs endeavor to impute political motives to Hon. John A, MacDonald's support of thc suggestion that our subsidy claims be heard before a. Royal Commission is ‘rather amusing. Mr. MacDonald supported the Board of Trade reso- lution to that effect for the same reason that Mr. W. F. Tldmarsh and Mr. R. E. Mutch moved and second- cd it; numcly, because he thought it would be it good thing for thc Pro- vince, The subsidy claims of Mani- toba had bcen satisfactory dealt with by thc ‘Pilrgcon Commission, and thc procedure established a. precedent which it might be wise to follow] The meeting was largely attended? and the question was freely discus- sed. The only opposition to the sug- gestion came from the Hon. John E. Sinclair, Mr. C. G. Duffy, K. C., and Mr. E. T. Higgs. Mr. Sinclair is thc scnior Liberal member fgr Queens. Mr, Duffy and Mr. Higgs were thc defeated Liberal candidates. for Charlottetown in the last pro- vincial election.
