There are two examples in his- wry which we may take as warn- ings .. men with extraordinary powers" and opportunities who were content with ordinary N66955-

Short Of Utmost

These men were not failures. In the eyes of their contemporaries. r they were captains of genius who loin-ht bravely the battles of their people. It was only the keen-eyr-d prophet who discerned what was really in them who was disgusted ii-ith what they were actually to be- iome and accomplish. One's possibilities are his heritage. They are that which God has wrought into his nature and which only his own free effort can bring out. If he had inherited money and lands he would have been expected to develop and use them in yhe iri- terest of his community: How much more does every human and divine law require him to cultivate and bring into action what he is in himself.

Latent Powers

The appearance of the worn gives no idea of what the oak-life in it really is: only through the processes of growth can its real na- ture be revealed. Similarly only a discernment God inspired can un- derstand the potentialities bound up in the young people of the pres- ent day. There is power latent in them to move and change the world. 'l'he noble achievements of the past can be surpassed in the future if our young people will an- swer the call.

There is everything in the past to inspire them. Men have been bound in chains by their birth, and have broken them. some have in- herited names stained with crime and have made them shine with honor. Others have made obstacles the stepping stones to distinction Each person has some gift peculiar- ly his own. somewhere lll God's great plan there is a place which he alone can fill and a part which he alone is qualified to take. But it is only the cultivation of our powers and use of our 0 rtunitles that will enable us take our place and do our part in the vast new en- terprises cf today. "My utmost to: His iiiizliesi." is the least I can offer io God.

MRS. CATHERINE S. MURLEY

The death took place at the P. E. 1. Hospital. on Monday Dec. 26 of Mrs. Catherine S. Miirley. wi- dow cf the late Cclphas B. Murley in her 83th year.

Mrs. Murley despite her ad- vanced age. had been in good health up to about 2 months ago but before the last five weeks was confined to the hospital.

Since the death of her husband some 25 years ago she had resided a number of years with her sister. Mrs. Peter Oliver and for past ll years had made her home with her niece. Mrs. J. 1". Lafferty I-Iillsboro at. city.

The late Mrs. Murley who was of a kindly and retiring nature was greatly beloved by all who knew her.

she was the daughter of the late John and Mrs. Brown and lived all her life in Charlottetown. She is survived by one sister Mrs. Peter Oliver and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral takes place this wed- nesda afternoon at 3.30 from the McLean Funeral home. Interment will be in the People's cemetery.

Windsor Says Not Going On Air

NEW YORK. Dec. 28 -(AP) - The Journal-American says today negotiations are under way which might bring the Duke and Duch- ess of Windsor to radio as a bus- band and wife team. The Duke said there is no truth in the re- port.

The newspaper's radio-television editor. Jack 0'Brian. says Charles King Radio Productions. Inc.. in association with Jay Herbert. has made the Duke and his American- born wife an offer of s1oo.ooo.

Herbert is quoted as saying the Duke and Duchess thus far have not turned down the offer.

O'Brien adds that the Duke had made an offer to NBC to ap- pear in a series of 52 weekly draimatizatlons of his life. but that network had declined to meet his asking price of 3250.000.

NORTH BAY, rant, Dec. 28 - (CP)-Police said today they have identified all four men who were found asphyxiated Saturday in a ditched automobile on a lonely road near the Lacave hydro de- velopment seven miles north of Mattawa. .

The men. bushmen jabbing for the hydro, have been identified as Eugene Bellarose: 38. sherbrooke.

The bodies were discovered sat- urday afternoon by Donat Bella- rose. brother of the man who drove the ill-fated car.

The four apparently were driv- ing towhds their camp when the car skidded on tihe narrow. icy road and slid into a ditch. Marks were found where Bellarose tried to drive the car out but failed. In some manner the car's muffler snapped.

Police believe that after the men realized the car was badly stuck. they probably decided to sit and wait for another car to come along. They left the motor running and the heater on high. Carbon monoxide fumes seeped through the iloor-boards from the broken muffler pipe.

Coroner Dr. J. A. Bergeron has ruled death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Women Barbers Find Business Good

K , Ont. Dec. M - (GP)-Two women barbers have opened a. shop here and they say business is good.

But Mrs. Lydia Hess and Mrs. Ulri Reibane say the barbering trade in Canada is different from that in their native Estonia. In their homeland. practically all buibers are women. '

Mrs. Hess. a shapely blonds. has been harboring 10 years. Her slim dark partner has been clipping and shaving for H years.

Mrs. I-Iess' first husband, a cap- tain in the German army during the second World War. was killed by the nusslims in 194i. as was her 17-year-old brother. Her sec- ond humiand. Joseph Hess, is em- ployed at a hospital here.

Mrs. Rebane. mother of a five- yeai--old girl, is the wife of John Rebane. who works for a Kitchen- er electrlcal firm.

Prominent Oiiawa Woman Passes-

AWA. Dec. 26 - (CP) - Mrs. May Snowball Tiibbiis. prom- iiient insociai, philanthropic and ChliTCh'Ci.rCleS in the capital, died today in hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Tibbiis was well known in many parts of Canada, particular- ly in the Maritime Povinces. It was at Saint. John, N. B.. that she suffered a heart attack. eventually to lead to her death, while visit- ing Lady Hazen last year.

She was married in 1899 lo the late Archibald Randolph Tlbbits, then a banker in Fredericton. They came to Ottawa 10 years later. At the time, Mr. Tibbiis' uncle, Sir Douglas Hazen, was Federal Minister of Marine and Fisheries.

Mrs. Tibbits was a niece of the late Lieutenant-Governor J. B. Snow-ball of New Brunswick and a granddaughter of Sir Adams G. Archibald. one of the Fathers of Confederation.

Survivors include Mrs. Mann- ing Stires of Montclalr, N. J., a sister, a.nd Miss Lillian Snowball and Mrs. Henry Rawilings. of Montreal. cousins. Burial will be at nearby Wakefield, Que.

The holiday week lug been quiet. so far as Army activity is concerned. With the big build- ins closed completely for three days things could not have been otherwise.

There were a few things which.

Patients at the Provincial sans- torium enjoyed one of the nicest Christmases they have ever had as A remit oi the efforts oi Miss steam: and the kitchen staff, and Miss Macliennari and the staff of nurses. .

Featured were the meals served the many patients on Christmas Day. each tray being decanted un- dc the supervinon and careful plan- ning of Miss stearns. special trays for Christmas Eve, and for break- fast. dinner and supper on Christ- mas Day were prepared. approxim- ately 240 for each meal being re- quired. Gay napkins, miniature trees. wreaths or candle decorations were on each tray. and each meal found different candy baskets. fruit. greeting cards and favors adding to their gay appearance.

I-land-made stockings, filled with candy, nuts and fruit also made their appearance, and the menu for Christmas dinner was proof that the kitchen staff had worked long hours in preparation. Turkey, cranberry sauce. Christmas pud- dine. and special ice cream were only a few oi the many tempting dishes set before the patients. From the youngest patient who is not yet three. each and every one of the Sanaiorium patients ex- pressed the feeilng that they had enjoyed a wonderful Christmas. and

There probably are others of whom we have not heard. but we think that much of the credit fcrl the pleasure the kids from the

orphanages received should go to

men who too often wondered if they would spend an- i other Christmas in their own! homes. . . .

The new year just coming up will see a quickening and I. re- vival of the Every unit will swing into full winter training schedules everyone from coloriels to privates will have a busy. season.

The newly redecorated and re- modelled Offlcers' Mess at the A.rmou.i'ie.s has come in for a great deal of praise since it was once again opened to the members. Everything from the new canteen to the especially attractive win- dow drapes have drawn compli- menis.

Another feature of the Arm- oui-ies during the holiday period is the splendidly decorated Christ- mas tree in the Men's Canteen. Perhaps the section is better iuiown as the Band Room-up- stairs where practices are held semi-weekly and where other ranks than those of the non-com- missioned officers may visit for break-off periods.

This room too has been re- cently renovated with the most outstanding change having been made in the flooring. The new covering makes possible a far greater degree of polish and dtiine than the ancient floor provided. This week it glitters as does the whole room. And not the least important part of the glitter comes from the shining lights on the biz tree. For several days they have said A Merry Chmimas to All. and to all I Happy New Year.

The people of York experienced one of the worst stoma in a long tiine on Mondaydnlgl-it. when quite a bit of damage was done. the worst been the barn belonging to Mr. 1111-. old Taylor, which was blown down. Power was also off and caused quite a inconvenience to the farmers of this district.
