The Tortuous Course of the Alleged Liberals Pointed Out and Condemned.
The Libersl-Conservative meeting in the skating rink last night was a magoificent ove in every reepect. The speeches of Sir Charles Tupper and Hon. Mr. Foster were attentively lutened to throughout, and ap excellent hearing was also given Messrs Siewart and Martin, the standard bearers of the party of progress in West sod Eaet Queen’s.
The audience was the largest ever sseembled within the rink, and was limit~ edonly by the capacity ofthe building. Everywhere thata seat conld be placed one was put, but notwithstanding this hundrede of electors were ob]ized to stand Byery section of the province wis well represented in the great crowd. The

crowd was orderly and well conducted, the only interruptions being in the natare of appiause and cheers with a question or two that was quickly answered.
The speeches were delivered from & platform that had been erected for the
occasion in the southern end of the rink. On this platform were seated Sir Cha les
Tupper, Hon. Mr. Foster, Mr. Alexander Martin, M. P., President of the Literal- Conservative Confereace of Prince Edward Itlaud, Mr. P, Blake, President of the Lib- eral~Conservative Association of the Weet Riding,who presided over the meeting,and Tepreeentatives of the press.

The interior of the rink was especiaily decorated for the occasion,jand presented a brilliant appearance underthe glare of electricity and gas. The balcony at the eouthern end of the rink was artistically decorated with bunting and epraces. Oa the top and on either cide were avpropri- ate mottoes. Across the top ofthe ‘Lal« couy wasthe greeting, “Welcome Sir Charles and Distinguished Guests.” On the right side of the bai- cony was the inscription : ‘Patrons of the Volunteer Heroes” aad on the left “The Hope of Caoada.” About the rink were to be seen such inescriptious as “Imperial Unity for Defence and Legice lative Independence of Canada,” “Canada for the Canadians,” “One Policy,” “ Oae Flag,” * A United Canada,” “British Preference for Canadian Produce,” etc.
The balcony was filled with ladies, and there was aiso a good eprinkling of the fair eex in otrer paris of the building.
It was exactly eight o’clock whea Sir Charles Tupper and Mr. Foster arrived, their coming being signalized by applat 3e and cheers which were renewed as tne distinguished statesmen took their places on the platfcrm.

I have very much pleasure indeed, this evening to have the honor of presiding at this immense meeting. It is one of the greatest meetings, I think, that has ever taken place in Charlottetown. Itis to meet the grand old veteran, the Leader of the Liberal-Conservative party. Oaly a few years ago we had the pleasure of paving Sir Coarles in this rink. But since then great changes have taken place, and still greater changes will take place in the near future, Sir Charles Tupper was hire on tbat occasion as leader of the Liberal-Conservative Govern- ment, and we expect that the next time we sball have the great pleasure of greet~ ing him as the grand leader of tue Liberal- Conservative Government of Cunada, Iam not going to take up your time this evening because you have come here to hear Sir Charles Tupper,and our good friend the Hon. Mr. Foster. Mr. Foster will point out to you why Sir Charles Tupper shall be leader of the next Government.
On this occasion, when we have so many of the fair sex with us, I knowl reed not ask you to preserve order, With- out any further preface I now declare the meeting open and have much pleasure‘in calling upon Mr. Martin, who has this. day received the proud honor of being egsin unanimously nominated as the standard-bearer for the Liberal-Conser- vative party in East Queen’s, I feel sure Sir Charles Tupper and Mr. Foster will bear we out in saying that Mr. Martin has received to-day the most enthusiastic nomination that ¢ny man could desire; and he would be a heartless man if he
