Sons of Temperance.

The quarterly session of Grand Division, held at Hunter River on the 22nd inst., was one of the largest ever held in the Pro- vince,

Nearly one hundred delegates were in attendance, representing some twenty-six Divisions. A large number of visiting members were also present.

Rev. W. P. Archibald was elected Grand Chaplain ia place of Rev. Wm. Grant, who is removing to a new field of labor.

The reports of officers show the Order to be in a very prosperous condition, numeri- cally as well as financially.

Twenty-eight new members were ad- mitted +o seats in the Grand Division, and a large amount of routine busine:s trans acted. ‘Ten Divisions were instituted the past quarter, making in all 47 working Divisions. Forty-four Divisions had for- warded returns to the Grand Scribe pre- vious to the session. These forty-four re- port a membership of 2,050, the admissions during the quarter amounting to 620.

A public meeting under the auspices of the Grand Division was held in the evening. A magnificent audience greeted the speakers who were listened to throughout with marked attention. Although many were unable even to procure standing room in the building yet the order was such as to reflect credit on the good people of Hunter River.

The Chair was occupied by the G, W. Patriarch.

The meeting was addressed by Wm. McN. Simpson, Rev. W. P. Archibald, Jas. Carruthers, R. M. Barratt, G. W. Bentley, M. P. P., Jas. Wail and John P. Tanton.

The speeches were interspersed with ex- cellent vocal and instrumental music, fur- nished by a local choir, for which they re- ceive the hearty thanks of the audience,

Recitations were given by J. West and Edith Kitson and G. W. Millner in his usual inimitable style gave ‘‘ Beautiful Snow.”

The members of Hunter River Division and people in the community received the thanks of members of the G. Division for their unbounded hospitality.

The Prince of Wales isa rigid martinet concerning all questions of etiquette and precedence, and | hear that His Royal Highness has ‘‘put his foot down” in a very decisive fashion so as to prevent Prince Henry, of Battenburg, from assuming a position at state functions to which he has no right. Atthe Savoy ceremony, Prince Henry was made to stand behind with Lord Lorne, while Prince Christian was emphatically directed to place himself in front of Her Majesty’s morganatic son-in- law. Prince Christian is ‘‘born” and is a bona fide royalty, so that he is on an equality with the members of any ruling family. Prince Henry is not ** born,” aud therefore possesses neither rank nor precedence, while the style of Royal Highness which the Queen foolishly bestowed upon him (having absolutely no power whatever to do anything of the kind), is of nu avail at any court in Europe exc»pt our own, and only at our own to a8 Wey limited extent. There was a_ fuss after Lord lLorne’s marriage because he was excluded from the _ royal supper-room at the state balls, nor was he aliowed to join in the royal procession at those entertainments. People are now speculating whether Princess Beatrice and her husband will attend a ball, and if eo, what arrangement will be made,as Prince Henry could not be given precedence before the ambasssdors, and if he were to occupy the very humble place to which he is en- titled he would be separated by some score of couples from his spouse— London Truth.
