ually attended by difllculties. political and otherwise. Such considerations as eligibility, popularity and service to the party must be taken into ac- count. When, as in the present in- stance, the names of some o! the Federal representatives are men- tioned as possibilities, the matter be- comes further complicated. Adjust- meqs in such cases require to be_ nicely made. It has been suggested that the easiest course for the Gov- ernment m pursue, the course whrch would meet with most popular ap- proval and would at the same time aaiisg less heart-burnings among the disappointed candidates for the of- fice, would be to give Governor Hearts a. second term. Whether the Government will decide upon this method of solving the difllcuity re- mains to be seen. It is understood to be giving the idea serious con- lideration.

One of the sad sights of" former years was tho infant with such severe indigestion that it was unable to re- tain anything on its stomach.

Evprything known to medical science was tried, the skin was rub- bed with foods in liquid form, food was inserted into large intestine. but all to no avail. '

And so in the hot weather, with the intestine upset by poorly kept milk or other food, and the stomach re- fusing food. the poor youngster had little better than just an even chance of making a. recovery. Parents dread- ed the summer months because of the great loss of life among babies.

However food ls food no matter how it gets into the system or blood stream, and so the idea of injecting dextrose (starch sugar) into the muscles was tried and the results were most satisfactory,

The dextrose is injected slowly into the largo muscles of the thigh, the physician watching that the first lot is being absorbed before injecting more. If the muscles become dis- tended he of course knows that the sugar is being absorbed very slowly.

Now dextrose is a wonderful food in that it rapidly gets into the blood stream and is thus of use in supply- ing energy in a very few minutes; much sooner than most other foods.

Besides this it has the power to make fats burn and thus supply en- ergy qulckly. because next to sugar fat is the principal food which creates enersy in the body.

Now this iniection of dextrose is not only used in the treatment of starving youngsters, but in practic- ally every condition in which a pat- ient is unable to take food in a. nor- mai manner.
