—FUNERAL YESTERDAY - The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary J. Arsenauit was held yesterday morning at nine o'clock from the residence oi her son, Ernest, to St. Paul's Church where the requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. A.J. MacLeod. It was a. very largely at- tended funeral. testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. The pall- bearers were Messrs Stanley Gaudet, John P. Gaudct, Stanley Arsenault, Jack Arscnault, Eddie Gallant, Fred Arsenault. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery and the final rites at the grave were per- formed by the Rt. Rev. G. J. MacLellan, V.G.—S.

Island-Born Doctor ilad Noiableiareer

Friends in this Province oi the late Dr. H. C. Lefurgey,whopassed away at Dolores, Colorado, several Weeks use. _wlil be interested in the account of his passing and oi his liie there since he leit his native province.

Dr. Leiurgey had lived in Dolores for forty years and saw many ex- citing events which took place in the transition of that section oi raw frontier territory. His reputat- ion as a medical and maternity doctor was unsurpassed by any in the state. He was capable oi moat- ing any emergency and was called upon to do so many times in his long career oi medical practice. He leaves countless friends and pat» ients. whom he had taken care of from their earliest childhood. to mourn his passing.

Dr. Leiurgey _was born in Decem- ber, 1877. in Prince Edward Island and alter graduating from the De- troit School of Medicine went to take up the medical practice at Dolores. His wife, the former Malble Williams, predeceased him in 1925. The nearest oi kin who survive the doctor are neices and nephews. Miss Jerusha. Leiurgey and Miss Margery Lciurgey of Charlotte- town; Miss Constance Loiurgey Bloke, Montreal; Henry Havelock Lefurgcy, Jasper, Alberta; William Donald Lcfurgey, Summerside; William Chapman, Ottawa, Ont.

Thc remains were laid to rest in the Dolores Summit Ridge Cemet- ery.-S.

Mrs. 0. A. Schurman Passes At Ghelton‘

The death of Mrs. Charles A. Schurman at the age of 88 years occurred at her home in Chelton on July 25th, i949. She was born at Shemogue. N. B., and vwas formerly Maria Black- lock, youngest daughter oi the late William A. Blacklock and Fannie Anderson Blacklock. She came to Prince Edward Island in 1892 and married Charles Alfred Schurman oi Bedeque, who predeceased her in 1937. She leaves to mourn one son, Heber, his wiie, and three grandchildren, Jean, Joyce, and Charles.

_ Funeral services were held from her late residence July 27. The large attendance testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Services were conducted by Rev. George N. Somers oi Sum- merside assisted by Rev. L, P. Archibald of Middle Musquodoblt. N. S., both of whom were close friends. Hymn selections. led by the Bedeque United Church Choir. were "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and “Safe In The Arms Of Jesus". A male quartette rendered “Face To Face", an old favorite of the

We also realize, of course, that a batter can step out oi the box if the pitcher is taking too long to deliver the pitch. But, in this case, we think he could not wait until lhe pitcher had delivered and then step out. We could be all wet on this, of course, and will let more experienced baseball heads decide the issue. In the meantime, the question may give the fans a chance to argue about it, and this is a very real pa'rt of the good old game.

Fourteen American Civil Air Patrol Cadets mingled with about 150 Canadian cadets at a beach party at Harbour View Cabins last evening and all appeared to be enjoying themselves immensely. Today the Cadets, who are from thirteen different States, all east o! the Mississippi, will leave Sum- merside after s four-day visit and will continue on their tour oi Eastern Canada, going first to St. John's, Newfoundland, via Sydney, N. S.

Ably supporting the leads are Broderick Crawford, Ward Bond, James Barton and Paul Draper as well as s score oi other character actors and‘ actresses. It is difficult to single out individuals, so perfect is the overall production.

Spring Brook, Margsie, linton and Kelvin Grove was held in the hall at Kensington, on Thursday, July 14th. The after- noon meetlng opened at 2.30 P.M. with the president, Mrs. Allan A. Campbell in the chair. Meeting opened by the singing of the Ode and repeating of the creed, in uni- son.

Mrs. Percy MacMurdo of Kel- vin Grove, cordially welcomed the delegates, and was littlngly replied to, by Mrs. Hickox of Springfield. The minutes of the i948 conven- tion were read and adopted. A standing roll call showed an at- tendance of 89 delegates; a num- ber of visitors were also present. She showed some very nice wbrk done by the Sewing Clubs. and would like to see more of these clubs started. She then gave an interesting talk on Inter- ior Decoration.

Mrs. Townsend, representative of the Singer Sew- ing Machine, gave a short address, and invited all who were interest- ed. to come during the intermis- sion, for a demonstration, an ad. vantage which many took. The afternoon session then closed, and refreshments were served by Kel- vin Grove Institute, assisted by Long River. Norboro and Margate.

Evening Session

The evening session, with Mrs. Campbell in the chair, opened by rinsing "0 Canada" followed by a solo by Miss Muriel Ann Sinnott of Emerald, and a reading by Miss Edwina MacLeod of Spring Brook.

Mrs. Julian Herring. P, E, I, Women's Institute Representative to the F. W. I. C., gave an in. teresting report on her trip to the Biennial Convention. She spoke of the Remembrance Book. of the 90.000 W. l. members gathered at the convention. of agriculture and soil conservation. cultural com- petitions, and the Twecdsmuir competitions. In the latter, she was disappointed in not finding any work done by P. E. 1., as she thinks our hooked rugs are much superior to those winning the com- petition, sad she hoped to see some of ours next year.
