Replying to questions Mr. Sifiton eaid that Ogilvie’s report, giving the result of the Yukon inquiry, had been received. He did not give its purport.

Sir Louie Davies was asked by Sir Charles Hibbert Tupper to bring down the large number of letters which be said

he had received in opposition to the tidal survey. The Minister replied that letters were private and confidentia’.

Toronto, May 27.--The Evening Tele- gram’s special cable, dated London, May 26, eave: Freder'ck Cowan, an ¢mminent Engli-h musician, is goog to Canada to examipve music teachers. Graham Moore, who has been representing the associated board of England in Australia, on his re- turn from that colony, will bold examina-~ tioos in British Columbia. Mr. Cowan bolds examinations in Toro»to and Mon- treal and in the eastern provinces.

Mr. Cowan will hold the examinations under the auspices of the Associated Board of England, in opposition to which the Associated Musicians of Toronto have been organized. The latter’s object is to Lave the examinations conducted by Canadian musicians who, they claim, are fully cap- able. =

Family of Nine Meet an Awful Death

Savannan,Ga., May 29.—Mail advices from Hardeeviile,8. C., say : About three miles from this village, on rhe Oeetrecher farm, on Tues ay night, May 23, occured a terrible tragedy, in which nine persons lost their lives. A two story frame building on the farm was occupied by Jacob Solomons, his wife and seven children, the eldest aged 16 years and the youngest an infant of one year.

“On Wednesday some one passing #aw that the house was gone, asd On approach~ ing to investigate fouad that every vestige of it was burned and the bodies of the nine occupe: ts, or rather the charred trunks of vine human bodies, were lyingin the ashes.

“The cornor’s inquest, held on the 25th inst,, disclosed these facts . A. Bryan, of, Crapaiid, diecharged a cargo of coal for Peake Bros., & Co., yeaterday> and this morning left for Bathurst, About half pasteight,as she was going {aut the harbor she met the steamer Tiber this side of the black house, and the two ‘Came joto collision.

The steamer siruck the schooner at her forerigging, and she went down almos' immediately.

Two of the schocner’s crew were tak- en on board the Tiber, and two remained in the schooner’s boat. Subsequently the

two onthe steamer went back to the boat with their shipmatee, andthe Tiber came on to Charlottetown.

Captuin Delisle, of the Tiber, places the blame for the accident on the echooner., He says she went around on his port bow, close tothe steamer and to the shore, and seemed to bang co there. Filliog her , Sails she kept on. He ordered the backing
