-In his report as president of the Prince County section of the 1-ederation of Agriculture, before the recent annual convention, in the Summerside High School. Mr Edward Macdougan. of Malpeque. said that the Federation has made definite progress, and suggested that as any other organization. the Federation should always keep broadening out and going ahead in a manner that is acceptable to the majority of the members. He pointed out that the Federation is one of the. leading organized groups in the country at the pre- sent time.

As in any other business or or- ganization, Mr. MacGougan said. there are times when new systems and re-organization has to come about to make it more effective This, he said. is what has to be done in the Federation, not to the extent to which the members would like to see it. but to some plan that will be agreeable to the nicijority.

There has been established. he said with Co-operative Unions, Credit Union League, Island Co- operative Services, and the fisher- ies extension department, a re- search division of the Federation to inquire into the social, educa- tlniial. and economic problems.

Mr. L. P. Mclsaac has been ap-: pointed director of the new divis- ion which will be most valuable in securing information to be used for guidance in deciding the Fed- eration policy.

The re-organization of the Fed- eration will entail a lot of plan- ning and work. Mr. MacG-ougan pointed out. such as the groupini; of twelve or fifteen school districts together around a central point having a board of directors and a secretary, and it was suggested that the secretary might receive a commission for collecting the membership fees.

Election Act Changes

Speaking of suggested changes in the Election Act, he said hr: hoped everyone thought. seriously about this matter, because the re. forms that had been presented to the members all required careful study before the government could he asked to consider them. Few people. he said. would argue the fact that our Election Act is out- moded and not in keeping with this modern day and age.

The Island educational system also needed to be changed, and mrght be effected by a plan sim. liar to the one outlined for the Federation. It has been suggested. he said. that school boards he set up comprising twelve to fifteen schools. with a town as the center

Retail prices kept in a straight- jacket by private price lilxing would handicap agriculture which has to sell at prices set by supplv and demand. . ' In ii discussion of the increasing number of farmers who are.using various methods of silo storage. Mr. MacGougan said that a study is being made of the various types of silos. and the different meth- ods of storage in use. to determine which are the most satisfactory.

JAMES WENDELL MacLEOD The community of Glen- garry and saltsprings as well as other parts of Piclou County. N. S., were shocked to hear of the tragic death of James Wendell MacLeod as the result of a truck- train accident at est River Sia- tion. November 2Qt . at 10.45 A. M. Born at Long Creek. P. E. 1.. in the year 1926, the son of the late Thomas MacLeod and Mrs. Mac- Leod. he came to Pictou County five years ago. and since then had

made his home in Saltsprings. until his marriage to the former Rizi Marshall of Glcnpzarry, six

weeks before his death. Since that time they had made their home in Truro. The combined choirs of Middle River and St. Coluniba Church song on old favorite "There's a Land That is Fairer Than Day." also the li23rd Psalm" and ”Safe in the Arms of Jesus."

The pallbearers were Arnor Graham. George Mccullocli. Alden Fraser. Herbie Robinson, Dou las tlvfzirsliall fllld Ernest Matheson.

Interment was in the little com- ctery on the lilll behind the church. The casket. was completely banked with floral offerings.

Surviving besides his widow are his mother. Mrs. Nellie MacLeod. ,Charlottetown. P. E. 1., and two lbrothcrs, Ray of Long Creek and 1Louls of Niagara Falls, Ont.. all

of whom weze present at the fun- eral.
