It is true that in point of picturesqae beauty the Tower must yield to some of its younger rivals. It has notthe mountain-like grandeur of the Palace of the Popes at Avignon, nor the fairy beauty of the Doge's Pa- lace at Florence, or of the Castie at Prague; much less bas it weird im- pressis eness of that skeleton of castles, the upper city of Carcassonne, or the piles cf Loches, Chinon, and Angers. On Friday afternoon last, at a farm- house near Oxford, Cumberland Co., a physician was called to see a man who Was seriously ill. He reported the case to be diptheria and gave as his opinion that the lad could not live till morniny. After the doctor went away,the farmer, in whose employ the young man was, harnessed his wagon and drove him, sick as he was,te Oxford Station, where he left him to shift for himselfas best as hecould. Growing rapidly worse and becoming delirious the poor fellow wandered out of the Station, and next morning was found dead ona manure heap not far from the Station. On Saturday afternoon the corpse was lying uncoflised aud uncared for in an out building and noteven aCorner’s In- quest had been held—whatever may have been done since. The young man we are informed, belonged to Pictou County, and the sad intelligence of his death has been sent to his friends. The shocking inhumanity of the man who could treat a sick and dying boy in so heartless and cruel a manner is some- thing so appaling that we do not care to comment upon it—language is unequal to thetask of filthy characterizing so fiendish an atrocity. Perhaps there are extenuating circumstances to be pleaded on that farmer’s behalf, if so, we sheuld like to hear what they are.—Truro Ciucardian. :
