The funeral services for the late Melvin Ellis, O'Leary, was held on Wednesday afternoon, February 18th., with a short ser- vice held at his home, thence to the O'Leary Baptist Church for service at two o'clock and was conductéd by his pastor, Rev. Ross Howard, assisted by Rev. Heber Kean and Rev. Dennis Rector. 'Bedeque House Saved From Fire

.. BEDEQUE — A passs motorist Sunday morning notfted smoke erupting from the roof of the Joshua Arsenault residence in Bedeque and gave the alarm which resulted in the fire being extinguished quickly but not be- fore a smal] hole had been burn- etd through the roof, of the large house. The unidentified motorist noti- fied the Arsenault family who along with. neighbors carried water from a nearby brook and quelled the outbreak. A. hole, about a foot in dameter wag being burned through the roof. There was also some water dam- age. ‘ ‘ It could ‘not be learned how the fire originated.

JOSEPH RICHARD

The death occurred at Western Road, near Tignish, on Friday, February 13th., of Joseph F. Richard .in his seventyfifth year.

The late Mr. Richard who was ill for only one week before his death, Was a man highly respect- ed by all who knew him, and- he was wiiely known for his’ home wel- come was extended to friend and neighbor, and it was in his home that a stranger would find a place to rest his weary self and par- take of the kind hospitality so generously afforded one by the late Mr. Richard and his good spouse.

He was a. devout Catholic, a kind and loving -husband and father and a devoted brother. In the home he will be greatly miss- ed and he will also be rhissed in the community. His honesty and straightforward man was well known and his word was as good as a bond. During the time of his ‘wake his home was constantly filled

and neighbors who. called to say a silent prayer for the repose of his soul and to offer sympathy to his dear ones who are left to mourn his passing.

The funeral held on Monday morning, February 16th., to St. Simon and: St. Jude Church, Tig- nish, was, despite cold weather and bad roads, one of the largest held for some time past.
