The fourth annual convention of Maritime Student Charter Ao- countants will open here today. when the membe a will be the guests of the P. E. Island student Charter Accountants Society. More than forty members, many of them accompanied by their wives. have booked reservations and will be in attendance from Saint John. Fredericton, Moncton. Halifax. 'rruro. New Glasgow and Sydney. as well as from this province.

An invitation has been extended to all lawyers, bank managers, and bank accountants in Charlotte- town, to attend the sessions.

The membership consists large- ly of young men who are taking approved courses, under proper supervision, in various branches or accounting, while employed by charter accountant firms, with a view to being awarded the same

recognition as '-is granted fully trained college graduates. The courses are prepared at Queen's i'niverslty, Kingston,

The convention opens today with it reception at the R. C. A. F. Club quarters in the Bank of Com- mcrce Building, presided 'over by Mr. Ralph D. Manning. char- lottetown, r-resident of the Associ- atlon, and will be climaxed by a dinner dance at Keppoch Beach Hotel on Friday night.

The convention meetings will be held at the Y. M. C. of Miss 21. Lillian Mc- Kenzie in the Kirk Hall last night was unusual in the quality of per- formance. The concert was an artistic achievement from begin- ning to end, and the large and most appreciative audience ac- claimed it the best yet. The singers were charming in voice and style. and the pianists in their varied numbers showed not only excellent technique but also a deep appreciation of the composer's in- tentlon. such intelligent and.- son- sitlve interpretation is rare among t ., students. Funeral Yesterday Of Mr. ll. T. White .

The funeral of the late R. '1'. While, grocer, 133 Elm Avenue, was held yesterday from the Mac- Lean Funeral Home to Zion Presbyterian Church where the service was conducted by Mr. John A. Johnston. M.A., and the Rev. T. H. B. Somers, M.A. Dur- ing the servlce Mr. John A. Mac- Lend sang as the solo "Does Jesus Care?" The Odd Fellows and the Sons of England attended in a body. The large number of floral tributes andltha many persons who attended the funeral ser- vices bore testimony of the esteem in which Mr. White was held. The Fraternal services at 'the grave were conducted on behalf of the Odd Fellows by Messrs. John Turner and Finley Macxinnon. and the Sons of England by Ham- mond Ford and Nelson Robertson. The poll bearers were Messrs. Theodore Sentner, Harry Mac- Nevin, Joseph Rodd, Percy Worth, J. D. Webster and Robert' Con- stable. Interment was in Peoples Cemetery.

Extremely Heavy Rainfall Recorded

The weather has caused more delay than all other factors com- blned, Mr. R. C. Parent, Superin- tendent of the Experimental Farm, said in reference to the continued dampness of the soil through con- tinued rain. He pointed out that since May 15, a period of 32 days, there had been rain on 24 of them to bring a total of 5.7 iclnhes dur- ing that time.

In the first 1'1 days of June alone it rained for 13 and delug- ed the Island with 3.61 inches. The seriousness of the :farmers' plight may be recognized when it is noted that the average rain- fall for the full month of June for the past 43 years is under three inches.

New Financial Deal For G.N.R. Approved

0'I'I'AlWA. June 18 -(GP)-The commons today approved a new financial deal for the debt-ridden Canadian National Railways.

Members gave third and final reading to a bill revising the cap- ital structure of the publicly-owm ed C.N.R. and sharply scaling its annual interest on debt.
