A Maritime Poeht

The Maritime Provinces have con- tributed versifiers of sterling merit to the literary life of Canada. One recalls in particular the late Bliss Cam-ran, who has had many imita- tors but no equal in those rapturous lyrics which now find a place in ev- ery anthology. Carman himself wrote brilliantly for many years be- fore winning recognition. His first volume was pregnant with seeds o! the flowering of his later genius, but few marked the phenomenon amid the spate of ephemeral productions current then, as always. Today. a- mong the younger poets. Iwhe shows greater promise of genius and craftsmanship than Mr. Kenneth Leslie, of Halifax, whose first, volume “Windward Rock," has recently been published by the MacMillan Com- pany. Of timely local interest is the fact that Mr. Leslie is visiting Char- lottetown this week and will give a recital of his poems, together with a short talk on life and poetry, in St. James Church hall on Thursday night.

It is entitled “My Body Broken", and its theme is magnificently stated in the opening lines:
