Three children with as many trout on an Alder sprig returned this afternoon from an outing which had kept them in the neigh- borhood of the gang-way bridge. 1-Carolyn had accompanied them to see that no tragic happening would befall them, young and happy and absorbed in their pastime. They begged "nothing but bread and butter" to stay their energy then. off a fresh-baked loaf, which real- ly vmlshes after the opening slice so strong are the demands of the season. Presently supper present- ed a mixed fare - fried trout, doubly sweet to the young anglers. and cod cooked immediately alter received from the fish-man's smart maroon truck, for those who would nurture their brain-cells.

"There's not I shred of truth in that old notion” one "not taken up with the risk of swallowing fish- bones" declared with a smile. "Only it's really too bad they didn't ilnd it out years ago - then you two could have been reared on . .. " rsplnach!" some one offered, laughing. But like James. brain- food or not. we seasoned the cod blandly, sprinkled it with vinegar and found it good. For those who preferred it, there was I dish of baked beans. savory and substan- tial food. and for one of the sweets to taper the meal. we enjoyed a variation of the popular and sea- sonal strawberry shortcake of Karolyn's making. She had mixed a cake batter and after a judicious beating consigned it to I. favorite oven-pan of ours. - one battered a bit and of dingy appearance, but nevertheless with many a good cake to its credit. .. good and candidly, to our mind. not so good. Cooled after baking at a fire of bits and pieces from the current carpentry, so smoke-producing itls blllows brought a. loud inquiry from

the direction of the barn-yard: "You haven't that flue fire. El- Jen? Well. it looks suspiciously

like it!" Split then and filled with a delicious mixture of mashed and sweetened strawberries, and spread on top with the same -with Karo- lyn signing "Now if we just had some whipped cream to heap above that!" - it made delectable eating for the foregathering of workers.

Like so many poised butterflies and in dozens of shades. July set the planting of Shirley P0PlJle5 I-blossoming on the lawn, opening the queer elongated buds to the brilliance of today's haying-sun. We have found these to be one answer to a busy farmwlfe's long- ing for beauty, with a minimum of energy and time expended in the culture. Bow eyes turn towards the enchantments of summer. which in unforgettable scenes greet one at every turn! one yisitor to Alderlea. who much enjoys visiting famous Art Galleries, and remains ever an admirer and student of Art, likes to watch the sunsets . . . Beau- tifully the fire of day burned to its embers this evening, sending out and about. mounting waves of color, until the sin; was "wreathed with rose and amethyst," which at length was dissolved to s, falntness by the gentle blue of the quiet twi- light as it spread in a calm bene- diction to bless a resting country- side.

SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT OF EXCESSIVE PEBSPlRA- TION 4

One of the difficult and distress- ing symptoms with wich the phy- sician is faced is excessive pers- piratlon. not only of the hands and feet but often of the entire body. The majority of these cases are nervous, high-strung individ- uals. Telling them to keep cairn and not worry may help many. but there are many more who find it difficult to keep calm whe- ther or not the cause of the em- tional disturbance is important.

Most cases of stomach and in- tsetiral ulcer (peptic ulcer) are found among nervous and emo- tional individuals. In a survey of ulcer patients, a considerable per- centage reported that since they had begun the use of banthine in treatment of ulcer. they found that hands and feet did not per- spire so much, in fact there was I dsryncss of the skin over the entire body.

Because there are I consider- able number of cases of excessive suffering with ulcer and not receiving banthine treatment, it may be well to re- port the information regarding use of banthine, as reported by Drs. K. S. Grimson, C. K. Lyons. W. I. Watkins and J. L. Callaway in The Journal of the American Medical Association.

”Banthine (Searle) has been us- ed in the Department of Surgery of Duke University School of Med- icine in peptic ulccrs and other stomach and intestinal disorders. In the course of the treatment of 144 such cases. scvcral commented on the dryness of their hands and the Department of Dermatology (skin diseases) was thus prom- pted to treat excessive perspira- tion (hyperdrosis) with banthlne as the usual methods were not satisfactory."

Four women between the ages of 2'1 and 30 were treated for ex- cessive sweating of hands, feet and armpits with very satisfac- tory results. Thc dose uas from 50 to '15 mgm. every 4 hours; occasionally. under special stresses 100 mgm. was given and the pat- ient soon learned to regulate the dosage according to necessity The only side effects were dilata- tion of the pupil, dryness of mouth and iendence to constipation. Bathine is now routine treatment of hyperdrosis.

Bsthine is taken by mouth in small tablets; it prevents excess- ive perspiration.
