SUGAR CROP REPORTS,

Nothing important has tranepired about the beet crop. At a meeting of beet growers, held last week at Berlin, it was decided to take no action toward forcing a reduction of the sowings for the next crop, but leave this to the voluntary action of the parties interested. The weather has been warm and favorable for an increase in the size of the Louisiana crop, but it interferes with grinding operetions. Latest advices from Cuba say the crop will be good and large and probably early. The financial position is as bad as ever, but the necessities of planters will cause them to make ali the sugar they can, and, it the crop is fully made, it may reach 650,000 tons under more favorable cir- cumstonces, A treaty of commerce is said to ‘have been signed between Spain and the United States, the contents of which is yet unknown, but it probably doer not affect sugar, ail changes in the tariff in United States having to originate with er be approved by our house of representa- tives, which is not in session until! December. The purchase of Cuba by the United States would meet with much more favor here than a reciprocity treaty in- cluding seugar—the duty op imported sugar from Cuba being out of all proportion to the value of onr exports thence.
