Surcipe.—John Ford, s farmer residing on the Rustico Road, committed suicide yesterday by hanging himself in hia barn. He had been under treatment at the Hos- pital for the Insane, and was only dis- charged from that Institution a few days ago. Ford was about sixty years of age, and leaves a wife and family.

Mr. Cantwell has received no notice of dismissal. Discussion on the Charges Against Caron.

Orrawa, April 28.

la the House yesterday, Osrtwright re- suming the debate on the resolution against Sir Adolphe Caron, said that if the charges were proven the minister was guilty of embezzlement and conspiracy; more than that, he was guilty of one of the greatest scandals that ever a public man could have committed—treason against the Govern- ment. Hecherged the Government with cowardice with their m:jority in refusing an investigation, and went on to say that the elections for fourteen years were carried by colossal corruption. He was particularly sbusive in bis language. Cartwright was followed by Dickey, who discussed the question in sn able manner and temper. He agreed with the Min- iater of Justice that thé House had no right to inquire into the private conduct of any of its members. Dealing with some points advanced by Laurier he said that the House had no right to expel a member unless guilty of felony or a crime and it was most necessary that the House should proceed cautiously in passing reso- lutions of this character iest it should have to aiterwards change its action. As to the charges, there was no doubt but that the Opposition made them as strong as they gould be put. Even then it had to be ad- mitted that there were no personal charg: against the Postmaster General. If there was it was one of political corruption Chargea 9 and 10 were particularly weak. Put these to a committee aud it would eover every contractor of the Government who made a subscription for political purposes. All these parties could summoned and examined in regard to these matters if a resolution of this kind was adopted. You could go b.ck twenty years in a man’s life. He then passed on to show that Laurier did all he could to prevent an investigation into the case of Pacsud in the Provinee of Quebec, although he was apparently anxious to investigate the charges here. While opposed to this resolution he would support any investigation made en proper Parliamentary lines. Mr. Ecgar reiterated his charges, holding that they were specific and that he could prove on sworn evidence exci: one of them Section five was a distinct and -pecitic charge against the Pos maser tseneral of having received money corup" y. Curran thought the charges were altogether too vague and not sufficiently specitic. He advocated the appointment of a royal commission to investigate the charges. The debate adjourned till Wednesdry next.

The intimation Tur Examiner gave relative to the scepe of the redistribution bill as affecting New Branswick is confirmed. St. John city and county will lose one member, while the counties of Queens and Sunbury will be amalgamated. The question of redistribu- tion im Nova Scotia is atill undecided; but whatever change is made wil! be in the west- ern portion of the province.

As @ result of the division on the binder twine duty, a cordage company hes decided to establish a factory at Winnipeg to employ 100 hands. Fifteen

railway mail clerks representing all parts of Canada, interviewed Caron and asked for the establishment of an insurance fand in con nection with that branch of the service; also, for an increase of salary to maximum of second class clerks. Caron said he would coneider the imeurance scheme, but thought the request for salaries too late this season.

Writs have been issued in the Supreme Court this morning, at the instance of Mayor Thomas, of Truio, against all the Liberal members of the House of Asaembly of Nova Scotia, and the Sergeant at-Arms, and sgainat Detective Power and Jailor Chambers. The plaintiff's claim is for $50,000 damages, on the plea that the defendants unlawfully assaulted and beat plaintiff 2nd imprisoned him.
