A contest was put on by Mrs. Donny Birt. carrying beans with I straw, and won by Mrs. Junior
Coffin. Proceeds from Christmas Concert amounted to 510 and were given to the school to buy necessi-
ziea. A delicious lunch was served lly the hostess assisted by Mrs. Don Birt and Mrs. Alvin Burke and a wry enjoyable evening was brought to a. close.

The reguiar monthly meeting of the Stanhope W.I. was held on Jan. 8, at the home of Mrs. Bruce Ellis.
'l'he president opened the meet- ing with the "Collect" repeated in unison and fourteen members answered the roll call by handing in a sympathy card.
The minutes of the last meet- ing were read. approved and signed.
The sick committee then gave their report. and the school com- niittee asked that a scrubbing brush be purchased which was passed by a motion.
New committees were appointed as follows: Sick, Mrs. Harry Law- son and Mrs. Bruce Ellis. School. Mrs. Harry Mac-.Laughlin. Lunch, Mrs. Herbert Keilly and Mrs. Via-.ry Lawson.
Correspondence was read and discussed. and it was decided to send for charity bundles from Eatonis and Simpson's. and also to obtain a copy of a book named "Personal Protection Under Atomic Attack".
Eirzht articles were handed in for the Red Cross. and two mem- icrs naici their subscriptions for the W.I. News.

The paper on health and social welfare was read and discussed. and the secretary was asked to send for booklet on "Atomic Warfare".
Sick committee reported, aid at new committee of Mrs. Harry Gan- der and Mrs. Waldo Stewart was appointed for the next two months. It was decided to order 2000 Oleo capsules. A continued paper on interior decorating was read by the members.
A very interesting "imp" contest. conducted by Mrs. Waldo Stewart, proved quite entertaining with the president and secretary as win- nr-is. New program committee for February will be Mrs. Harold Mor- X'3W.
The president. Mrs. H. P. Cud- more. then presented an Institute pin to the retiring president. Mrs. Ira Auld, which was graciously acknowledged.
The members will answer roll call at their February meeting by some interesting item concerning another Institute. This meeting will be at Mrs. Earl Carter's. Feb. 11th. Lunch committee will be Mrs. Rowe Hughes, Mrs. Harry Gander and Mrs. Bent. Newson.
Collection amounted to 81.85 and the meeting closed with "The King”. after which a bountiful lunch was served by the hostess, followed by a social hour.
TEN MILE HOUSE W. I.
The monthly meeting of the Ten Mile House Women's Insti- tute was held at the home of Mrs .Leo Mullen on January 15. with eight members present.
The meeting opened with H16 Insiiiutc "Ode" followed by the "Creed" and the minutes of the last. meeting were read and ap- proved. The roll call was tins- wcrcri by a donation for grab hag. proceeds amounting to 51.15. Copies of the "institute News" were then distributed among the members.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned with the National Anthem.

The January meeting of the Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Norman Ling with nine members present. In the aost-nce of the president. the vice- pruaident presided.

HUNTER RIVER M'. I.
On January 7th the members of itiverview Womcnis Institute were entertained at the home of Mrs. lfoward. Christie when twenty- lhrec members. one new member and four visitors were present.
The president. Mrs. Emmett Bernard. presided. Donations from New Glasgow and Cavendish ln- stitutes towards the memorial library and plaque have been re- ceivcd and acknowledged.
The Dental Clinic was discus- sed and the following committee was appointed to check on this: Mrs. Emmett Bernard, Mrs. Rcagh Bagnall and Mrs. Christie.
A music teacher for school was also discussed and the secretary was asked to contact same.
Authorization was given for pay- ment of bills for school treats. sick and shttt-ins and overseas parcels. Three "thank you” notes were re- ceived fnr gifts at Christmas.
Receipts are as follows: Dues 32.50, Institute News 50c. cook book 50c. and collection 51.65. The social secretary reported sending several cards and Mrs. Frank Bagnail kindly invited mem- bers for the next meeting when the roll call will be an exchange of valentines.

Coloured films of A number of small children of the village as well as several beautiful flower izarden scenes were shown by Rev. Howard Christie and were thor- oughly enjoyed by all present. The refreshment committee and hostess served delicious refresh- menis.
NORTH WINSLOI W. I. The first. meeting of the new year was held at the home of Mrs. C. L. Cudmore on Tuesday even- in. Jan. 8th. The meeting opened by singing "old Folks At Home". repeating Creed in unison. and roll call was answered by eleven
members. There was one visitor present. The minutes of the previous
meeting were read. approved and signed. and the correspondence was read and discussed. It was decided to start the card and crokinoie parties in the hall and to procure some material for I play to be presented sometime in the future. The retiring secretary thanked the members for the gift she re- ceived and A card of thanks was received from it member who H leaving the tiistrict. 52.07 was refunded from the school teaohe . and school committee re- ported that language books were purchased.

call was answered by giving a re- cipe for a hot supper dish for win- ter. The minutes of last meeting were read. approved and signed.
The School committee reported no needs and Sick committee re- ported treating shut-ins at Christ- mas and visiting several sick. It was decided to move the sink over from the school to the hall. if one was needed for the school the In- stitute was to replace it. it was also decided to buy the books for the school. several members offer- ed to sponsor card parties at the hall to take place during the month. It was moved and second- ed to buy several new packs of ca-.1:la for the card parties.
It was also decided that each man put up extra ice this winter. the extra ice to be used for the ice cream socials during the sum- mer.
The Hall rommittee are to make plans to decorate the interior of the hall and were appointed as follows: Mrs. Wallace Adams, Mrs. Robert Cousins, Mrs. L10)d Adams. Mlrs Clarence Hickey and Mrs. Wallace Pickering. collection was then taken and amounted, to '15 cents.
Red Cross work was then distri- buted and lessons from "Home Nursing Course were read by dif- ferent members. A Spelling Match was much enjoyed.
The meeting closed with "ihe Kins." Lunch was served by the hoties-1. assisted by committee. Next meeting at the home of Mrs. Robert Cousins. Refreshment corn- mittee to be Mrs. Fred Campbell and Mrs. Colin Mountain.

Owing to the absence of the President, the Vice-President pre- sided and opened the meeting by singing the "ode" and repeating the "creed" in unison. Roll clll was responded to by 11 member and two visitors.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read, approved and signed, and the sick committee reported having made two calls.

Highlight of this meeting was the opening of the "Birthday Box" and a. good sum was realized to help the funds.
Correspondence was read and questionnaires answered, and it was moved to send 10c for bool: on Atomic Warfare.
Program consisted of "Winter meals for the famiiv". Meeting adjourned with "The King" to meet in February at the home of Mrs. Ruby costs when the lunch corn- mittee will be Mrs. James Macm- r.is. Mrs. Duncan Macrnnis. M.rs. Harold Macrtae and Miss Elizabeth Rowley.
