hall Tuesday evening. The second vice-president, Miss Catharine Currie, presided. The psalm "God Of Mercy, God of Love" was sung and the Scripture leaaona Luke 2: 1-2), and Isaiah 9: 6-7. were read in unison, followed by a circle of prayer. The final chap- ter of the atudy book. "Africa- Contrasts and Conflicts" was in charge of Mrs. Byron Stewart. Roll call was answered with a verse of Scripture containing the word "Thank". The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. A. C. Maclfay. and were approved as read. The financial report was read by the treasurer. Mrs. H. E. Nelson. The meeting was well attended and the retiring president, M,-5, Byron Stewart presided. Sixteen members responded to roll call by paying dues. and there was one visitor present. The financial re- port for the year was read by Mrs. Clair, who also reported that Christmas gifts had been mailed to thirteen younlr men and women from Montague who are serving with the armed services.

Mrs. Emery MacNeill reported for the visiting committee. Two members had been sick during the month and were remembered with treats. Mrs. John Clair and Mrs. Ellie Llewellyn were appointed to purchase C'nrisLm2is treats for a local organization.

A fine crowd enjoyed themselves to the fullest at the married cou- ple'a dance held in the Mt. Stewart Theatre on November 24th. This entertainment was sponsored by the choir of St. Andrew's Roman Catli- oiie Ohuroii with the. proceeds being used for choir requirements, Music for the gala occasion was supplied by the orchestra of Hughes and MacDonald. Married ceuples' dances are making I great comeback and have reached a new high in popu- larity. It is understood that another like dance will be sponsored in the not too distant future for this same worthy cause.

The many friends of Mr. Fred Mosher, savage Harbour, will be happy to learn that his condition is reported as steadily improving. The genial Freddie, a veteran on World War 11. recently underwent as serious operation.at Camp Hill Hospital. Halifax.

Supervisor Gordon Rice made his semi-annual visit to savage Harbour School on Friday. Years

ago the morning visit of the school inspector was looked upon as one of the rirradcd events of the year by teachers and pupils alike, how- ever that has all been changed during the passing years until to- day the visit of the supervisor is hailed as one of the moat pleas- -anut happenings of the school year. Many have added their hit to bring about this agreeable change but no one more than has Gordon Rice.

The Dlstnict of Savage Harbour suffered a keen loss recently when Mrs. Fulton Pigott and her daugh- ter Miss Hattie Pigott moved from here to take up residence in Char- lottetown. The Pigot.t's. life-long residents of the Harbour. were among its most respected citizens and the role which Mia Pigctt took in the general activities. of the Community will be one that will indeed be difficult to an. The best wishes of all go with Mrs. and Miss Plgott. and trust that they may find a. full measure of prosperity and content in their new home. A warm welcome will be assured them when again they visit their old home.

Another bang-up crowd attend- ed the cribbage tournament being held in Savage Harbour School each Thursday evening. Interest is growing by leaps and bounds and the end is noivliere in sight. Cyril Morrison who won the opening ses- sion with a perfect some had to step aside in the second canto as Miss Nora Doyle of Point de Roche and Mr. Nashes Maiccrmac of Savage Harbour, came thundering down to the finish line in a dead

heat for top honors. Mr. MacC:'- mack winning the play-off, Cyril however remains very much in the running for the grand prim and will bear keen watching by other hopeful contestants. A delicious lunch was served by the ladies of the Women's institute under whose auspices the tournament is being staged. Proceeds in general are to be used for school purposes.

The regular monthly meeting of the teachers' study group was held in St. Peters Lake School on Wed- nesday. November 25th. under the direction' of Supervisor Gordon Rice. After some individual prob- lems had been solved the meeting took up the subject of "Readiness for Promotion". All teachers took an active part. in the discussion with the result that this time was the most siiccessfiil meeting to date At the completion of the dis- cusslon the following points had been agreed upon by all present: Promotion should be made if at all possible; if repetition be necessary then it should be done in junior grades: size and age of pupils should be given some consideration: the present Grade VIII examin- ations should be aboliehsd. But the Department could provide a "guiding test" for all grades avail- able to any teacher who might re- quest them. At the next meeting which will be at St. Peters Lake at a date to be set, discussions will he centred on Time Table. Course of Studies and Recreation.
