New York, Sept 16.—H. 8S. Rubens counsel of the Cuban Junta here, toxday denied the statement that the visit to Cuba of Benjamin Guerra, of the New York Junta, was for the purpose of harmonizing Cuban factiona! diflerences aud presenting

a united front against any attempt at Americas annexation.

Mr. Rubeas said that there was nothing toshow that the government was not as sincere now in its promise to secure Cuban independence as atthe time it sent its ullimatum to Spain. Mr, Guerra, no more than aay other Cuban leader, never had any idea that there was any danger of American annexation. There is no feeling in Cuba or among the Cubans, but one of gratitude tothe American government for intervention,

Mappip,Sept. 16,—General Toral, who surrendered the Spanish army at Santiago to the Americans, arrived at Vigo from Santiago today. A great crowd awaited his arrival on the pier and greeted the general with a storm of hisses and abuse.

The demonstration was so violent that General Toral returned to the ship, decid- ing not to jand at Vigo.
