In the Commons, Hon. Mr. Pope in- troduced a bill respecting the extension of the Intercolonial Railway into Pictou and stated the object of the bill was to empower the Government to expropriatejthe lands re- quired.

In answer toa question, Hon. Mr. White said a number of homesteads entered within the ©. P, R. belt up to 31st Dee. last was 15,644.

In answer to a question, Hon. Mr. Thompson said the Government had re- ceived from their counsel in the Northwest Rebellion prosecutions, facts with respect to the active encouragement of the rebel- lion by white men in Prince Albert.

On Amyot moving for copies of all tele- grams asking that sentence of death against Riel should not be commuted, Sir Hector, following the usual course, moved in amendment that the House proeeed to dis- cussion on Landry’s motion of censure.

Edgar moved an amendment that the papers connected with the trial and all the papers asked jor should be at once brought down.

Mr. Speaker ruled that Edgar evuld not move such an amendment under tlic rules of the house. Mr. Blake insisted it was within the rules.

Mr. Speaker read from the Parliament- ary procedure that both in Canadian and English Parliaments such could not be moved.

Mr. Biake then spoke to Sir Hector’a ameudment, attacking the Government for
