A common criticism is that CFS went into debt in its ﬁrst year of operation and, although its budget is only $400,000, still has a deﬁcit of $47,000. Dowdell attributes the problems to bad manage- ment. He says that a financial co-ordinator for CFS has been hired and that “this year’s budget is the strictest yet. We plan to eliminate the deﬁcit. ”

SU president Jack Keefe, PEI Central Committee Re- presentative, Howard Beattie, and Councillor Margaret Archibald are presently attending CFS’s bi-annual general meeting in Ottawa. Archibald believes that the results of this meeting will be a “deciding factor” in the referendum question. Stressing that education of the student body of UPEI is vital in the matter, she says, “(The meeting) will give us a better idea of what CFS is all about and what it can do for students.”
