Horse Notes. The trotting season is practically closed, aud it is more than probable that Sunol will hold the title of queen of the turf until at least next year. How much longer it would be unwise to predict. As the reader is doubtless aware, Sunol’s record of 2,08} was made on a kite-sheped track, which is estimated to be from twoto four seconds faster than the regulation track on which the record 2.08% by Maud S. was made, and also 2.09 by Nancy Hanks. This latier performance on a regulation oval track is looked upon as the greatest turf event of recent years. Horsewen already put fuith the argument that while Sunol won a tech- nical title to the record, the 2.09 of Nancy Hanks shows a mare of more speed. In order to eclipse the work of Maud 8. or Nancy Hanks, in the opinion of horsemen, Sunol should have reduced the record of 2.08} by at least two or three seconds, to allow for the difference in the tracks. Next season will, beyond question, witness some remarkable performances on the turf.

Budd Doble is the only driver that has given more than one trotter the world’s re- cord. He drove the fastest mile that had ever beentrotted when he gave Dexter 2.174, his record, and Goldsmith Maid, 2.14, was the champion trotter when he gave her her record. Now it lovks as though he would give Nancy Hanks « re- cord faster than that of any other trotter. However, John Splan gave Rarus 2,13} aud Johnson 2 063, their record?, buat as the latter is a pacer, he is not up to Doble, althouzh the two Splan drove were the champion records when made.
