Each year the Liberals bave increased the public expenditure, the’ increase in 1899 being upwards of $9,090,000. The ' increase per head of the population in four years was $1.86 perhead, or $9.30 for each family in Canada !
From 1896 to 1899~—under the Liberals —the volume of taxation was increased by upwards of $7,000,000 !
These increases are all made in the face of the famous Quebec platform and the solemn promiees of Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Sir Richard Cartwright, Sir Louis Davies, Hon. David Mille and cther Liberal leaders that reductions would follow their return to power.
Itis not wonderful that Sir Lonis does not want tohave these solemn pledges ressurrected—that he prefers to “live in the living present.”

Mr. Tarte, it is pointed out, excuses the enormously increased expenditure by boasting that the Government is “makiog more money.” Bat it is well for the peor ple to understand that apart from the re= ceipts from the post office and from ruil- ways and oo sinking fund investments, the only sourcesof Government revenue
are the duties collected through the customs houses on foreign goods and through the excise
offices on goods made in the country. These are taxes, pure avd simple, every dollar of which is paid by the people in added cost of the goods they buy. Here is the record, as given%in the Government returos, for the four years of Liberal rule and the four previous years of Conserva- tive rule:

Dear Sir and Brother,—The members of Branch 214 cannot allow you to remove rem their midst without protesting to you he deep regret they feel that you are noi 'kely to be much longer as active a branch member as you have been in the past, owing to the fact that you are re- moving to another province. Bince the inception of thia Branch, the mother of all the branches of the province, you have been in the true sense of the word an en-~ thuaiastic, hardsworking and truly de- voted member. At the start you generously shared the labors which fall apon a charter member of a new and untried association, and, ever since, you have taken pleasure in assisting at every possible meeting, and in and out of the Branch Hall have done your utmost to make our grand association live and prosper. “July 11,10 p.m., Greenwich—Our voyage gone well eo far. Are now at an altitude of 250 metres, Original direc- tion, north 10 degrees east ; compass un- deviation. Later north 45 degrees east ;
