Trape IN Dead Mrar, ~—Ten tons of dead meat were shipped to ing-and from Halifax on Saturday last. The shipping to England of dead meat has proved quite successful and Nova Scotia shippers are encouraged to enter into the business extens vely.

Wesee, by late Boston papers, that Mr. Eph Clow, tormerly of North \\ iltshire, an [,. has distinguished umself in a 70-hour walking match, which took place recently in Boston Music Hall. Mr. Clow covered 326 wiles and § laps, and carried off fourth prize. The first purse was won by Panchot, who covered 345 miles and 15 laps.

We received the followiug advertisement to-day from a respectable gentleman in this city -—"‘Wantel—Two or three policemen, to disperse gangs of reughs who meet at the corners on Prince street eu Sabbath evenings. “hese roughs may be found from the upper corner of Judge Young's grounds to the Atheneum. ‘They cause ladies and others much annoyance, as they frequent- ly blockacle the way.”

Hay Trips —An experiment of shipping hay from Neva Scotia to the West Indies has been successfully made by a Halfax'firm. The firm shipped 100 tens in January, and after paying all expenses, netied S32. The same firm have 152 tone of hay on the way to the West Indies, andl have 700 or S800 tons await- ing shipment in Cumberland. Hay is quoted at Barbadoes and other islands at $27 to $30 per ton, and in Halifax at $12 per ton,

DipruertA A TeRnOR.—Among the many familiss in this section of the Province that have been visited by diptheria is that of a Frenchman living on the Passiac road, about two miles from Moncton. A few days ago ene of the children died of the disease, and the unfortunate father, being toe poor, prob- ably, togo to the expease of getting an un- dertaker, was obliged to conduct the funeral of his own child, and bury the body ina rough box. —~—.Vencton Times,

Pouttry Trape.— Messrs. G. P. Henry & Uo., of Halifax, shipped to England in Decem- ber last, 157 geese, 100 pairs partridges, 602 turkeys, and 25 pairs dacks, the lot realizing in Liverpool, after paying all expenses of wharfage, freight, and allowing for heavy losses through bad packing and in transit, &e., &c., $900, and elearing the shippeas quite arespectable prot. The geese and turkeys were of a superior quality, the former averag- ing 10 and the latter 1] Ibs. each; and the most of them were raised at Brookfield, Col- Chester County, N. 8.

Mr. Danrtet Mooresipr, farmer, of North River, died very suddenly in this city on Saturday evening. He, in company with his son, left their house on Saturday with ‘teams loaded with timber. While on the ice Mr. Mooreside became dizzy and chilled, and con- tinued in that state until they arrived ‘in this city. When they had sold the timber, Mr. Mooreside proceeded to the ‘* Farmers Arms with the intention ef warming him- self. While there the chills increased, and he fell into an_ epileptic fit. The keeper of thefhotel did all in his power te relieve him, and with a view of having him more promptly revived, removed him te Drs. Jenkins & McLeod's surgery. From there he was removed to a warm room in Mr. Whit- tey’s hotel, and was diligently attended by Dr. McLeod. But medical skill proved of no avail, and Mr. Mooreside died about 9 o’elock of apoplexy. The deceased was 60 years of age. tle leaves a family of two sons and three daughters.

A Lose Livep Famity.—A notice of a death which appeais in our columna has in- duced us to make enquiries respeeting a fam- ily remarkable for the great age to which its members have attained. Nicholas Jenkins and his wife emigrated “to this Island from Ger- many alout the year 1782 with three children. They ecitied first at Vernon River, and re- moved, after a short stay, to Cherry Valley, from which place tley came to Pownal, where they reside.| to the day of their death. After coming to the Island seven children were born to them, some of whom are still living.

Musica ENTERTAINMENT AT THE ASYLUM— Punctually at 6 o clock on Saturday evening,

tr. P. Connolly’s team left for the Asylum. The jolly party consisted of the Quintette Club, the siugers and the Press, including eur reporter. ‘The sleighing on the ice was Perfect, the weather was magnificent, the

_— was shining, and everything was ovely. The sengs on the way up were

“well received by the audience” in the sleigh, and the choruses, in which every one took part, were tremendous. The concert was held in the Chapel, and about 40 inmates ofthe Asylum were present. The men, we observed, whe were placed inthe front rank, only betrayed their lunacy by looking like a ot of hopeless inbeciles. Some of the ladies, onthe contrary, were extremely vivacious “nging in unison with singers on the stage oc- asionally. When Prof. Caven sang his Song, ** Jack is every inch a Sailor,” one lady Persisted that he was not. The Quintette Club played, we think, as well as we ever ‘ard them, and the singing was, without any *Xception, good. After the Concert,the gentle Men in the invited audience, subscribed 365

A deprtation from the press gallery waited upon the Speaker with a recommen- dation to ‘enygthen the lower gallery and abandon tie upper one as useless, and, if neceasary, construct another lewer gallery on the oti er side of tiie Chamber.

The Speaker intimated his favourable considera!ion, and it is expected the recom- mendation will be carried out.

Mr Wallace ef Norfolk, addressed a group of members this morning, in the Chamber, in behalf of his hobby, the ‘‘Rag- baby.” It met less favor than was expected, even Mr. Plumb dissented from the dec- trines.

It is stated that three millions of bushels of wheat were imported into Canada this year, none of which paid duty.

‘Senator Carvell, with Messrs. Brecken and McDonald, M. P’s, waited on the Minister of Justice this morning, asking him to increase the salaries of the P. E. 1. Judges.
