It appears that during an altercation between the parties, when Quinn had McGonnel down snd was beating him, McGonnell bit the little finger of Quinn’s left hand in such a manner that Dr. Jenkins had to amputate the finger. Several witnesses were exumined and the nagistrate adjourned the case until two o'clock on Friday, the 26:h inst.

The next was a Scott Act case, H. J. Calibeck, Erq., J. P., sitting with Mr. Mellish.. Mis. Amelia Morris. of Alexandria, was summoned to anewer for having violated the Act. Mrs. Morris, who was not present, was represented by her counsel, Mr. J. H. Good, Attorney-at-law, and P:osecutor Matthews questioned the witnesses in his own behalf. The case wus dismissed,

Meeting at Clifton.

A meeting of the inhabitants of New London North and South was held at Clif- ton on Monday evening, the 15th inst. William Ramsay, E-q., was appomted to the chair and the uudersigned Secretary. The following resolution was moved by Albert Simpson, Esq., and seconded by Capt. Geo. McLeod and William McK.y, Keq , and car:ied unanimvuusly :—

Whereas, a large amount of money has been expeuded on improvements to our harbor ;

Aud whereas, said improvements have been rendered practicaily useless to the people on the western side of the harbor, owing to the formation of a sandbar across the channel leading to the wharves at, French River, Cliften and Long River,’ thereby preventing vessels with cargves having iugress or egress;

Therefore resoived, that this meeting

respectfully urge upon the deparrment the

necessity of sending an engimver at an early

date to report upon aaid obstruction with a

view to its removal or im some other way

obviating the difficulty.

Also res: lved, that we ask our represen- ! tatives in Parlisment to urge upon the Gov-

ernmen?: ihe necessity of an apprupriatioa

during the present season for the removal

of said obstruction.
