Her Majesty’s mails arrived in Char lottetown this forenoon in about forty-six hours from Pictou. The United States and New Brunswick mails had previously lain at Pictou eighteen or nineteen hours. So that from their arrival in Pictou until

about sixty-five hours, or only 4 little less than three days. Truly, this may be re- garded as a nineteenth century triumph ! Pictou is thirty-five miles from George- town, and Georgetown forty-six miles (by rail) from Charlottetown. Eighty miles in three days! This is rapid transit !

They usually laugh who win; and the in- action of John Haggart is just what is calculated to make the Grits of this Pro- vince win. Mr. Welsh may, not have mesmerised him—though his. presence in Ottawa while the Province is being ill- treated in respect to its mails,—taken in connection with his frequent boast that he is Mr. Haggart’s ‘‘ chum”— is a very suspicious circumstance.

Some Light.

Tue Patriot affords some light regarding the mystery of the mails. It has an- nounced that ‘‘Mr. L. H. Davies tele- _|graphed his colleague, Mr. Welsh, in the ~|strongest possible terms, ete. Now it is well known in Ottawa (as it is here) that when Mr. L. H. Davies uses the ** strong- est possible language,” there is usually very little ground forit. It is, therefore, not improbable that the Post Office authori- ties inferred, on receipt of Mr. Davies’ ‘vigorous telegram,” that he ‘didn't mean it,” and so delayed to order the special train which the Post Office Inspector and the Board of Trade and the whole community required for the prompt trans- mission of the mails. If this be the fact it is to be regretted, and Mr. L. H. Davies had better have restrained his strong lan- guage or refrained from sending his tele- gram. The simple statement of the plain

facts, as made by THE EXAMINER, ought to have been sufficient to move the postal authorities te provide a special train at once; it would, no doubt, have been so but for Mr. Davies’ interference.

Mr. Sanderson's Will.

Tue last will and testament of William Sanderson, Esquire, late Deputy Prothono- | tary for King’s County, was filed in the Probate Court to-day. The document bears date the sixth of March, 1881, and is witnessed by G. A. Aitken, William Allen and John Haggart, all of Georgetown. It consists of thirteen paragraphs and contains the following devises and bequests:—

Ist—The Testator gives to his grandson, William Sanderson Easton, all his real estate in Georgetown. "

Qnd—, A bequest of $2,800 to his son-in-law, James Kaston, and his wife, Elien Easton,

3rd—A bequest to Ellen Easton, his grand- daughter, of a life interest in $2,000 in the Savings Bank, and at her death the principal to go to the Socie ty for the propagation of the Gospel in foreign parts.

4th—A be quest of a life interest in £2,000 to testator’s gre snddaughter, Mary Easton; at her death, $1,000 thereof to go to the Church Missionary Soci iety, and the remaining $1,000 to the Diocesan Church Sox tiety of this Is land.

5th—A bequest ot $1 ,000 to the British and

6th—A bequest of $2,000 towards an en- dowment fund for Trinity Church, George- town ; two-thirds of the annual interest to go towards the clergyman’s salary, and the balance of the annual interest tothe Lay Reader.

7th—To the Public Hospital in Charlotte- town, the sum of Five Hundred Dollars.

8th—T wo hundred dollars towards the pro- motion of Christianity among the Jews.

9th—Three hundred dollars to testator’s housekeeper, Sarah Campbell.

10th—Fifty dollars to late servant, Matilda Campbell ; twenty-five dollars to late servant, Alice Hughes, and the same to Susan Evans also a late servant.

11th—$200 towards the erection of a tem-

eranee hall in Charlottetown.

12th—To the Drummond Tract Society of Stirling, Scotland, G. B., $50.

13th—-A 1 bequest of $100 to Miss Hannah E. Aitken, of Georgetown, for her valuable ser- vices in the choir of Trinity Church, George- town.

The testator finally makes his grandson, William Sanderson Easton, sole residuary legatee of the estate, and appoints four gentlemen his executors.

Probate of the will has, however, been granted to" but one of them, namely, James Easton, of Georgetown.
