Tue Jacques Cartier election ballot box stuffing case has been concluded. Judge Ramsay's charge occupied two and a half hours. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty against Forget, Lamarche, Christin and Pilon, who all made default. Madore and Lemoy were acquitted.

Tue special session of the Court of Chancery was adjourned yesterday, when the arguments on the injunction granted to Thomas Alley, Esq., to prevent Messrs. Duchemin Bros. from using asteam engine in their factory were completed. The Master of the Rolls has reserved his judg- ment in this matter.
Ar the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court this forenoon Charles Martin, found stagger- ing about Queen street, was fined $1 and costs or four days. Charles McCarthy, ar- rested for disturbing his son-in-law’s house- hold, was fined $3 and costs or fourteen days. William Carroll was summoned by Dr. Beer for driving disorderly. The case was adjourued until to-morrow.
Propuce Surements.—The following are the produce shipments from this port to- day :—Schooner E. Wise, Halifax, with 953 bushels potatoes, 827 do. oats, 44 do. tur- nips, 1,712 lbs. pork, 8 barrels oysters, by Clarke & Smith; schooner Mary Jane, Boston, with 4,041 bushels potatoes, valued at $1,616, shipped by John Hughes ; Annie May, Newfoundland, with 1,500 bushels potatoes, 300 do. turnips, by Capt. Gillan.

Sales were lively at following prices : Beef, small, from 5 to 12 cts.; do quarter from 3 to 7 cts.; mutton, from 4 to 8 cts.; lamb, from 4 to 8 cts.; pork (carcass), from 3} to 4} cents per lb.; geese, each, from 35 to 50 cts; ducks, from 20 to 30 cts.; chickens, per pair, from 30 to 35 cts.; butter, fresh, from 20 to 24 cts. ;"do tub, from 16 to 18 cts.; potatoes, from 40 to$53 cents; hay, from 40 to 50 cts.; oats, from 28 to 30 cents.
Tue Danes continue to be attracted to their sp!endid settlement in New Denmark. Some come from the Western States ; others cross the ocean. About a dozen persons, all told, came out by the Peruvian to Quebec, and from that point came on to St. John, whence they are being forwarded by Col. Shives. He has had some difficulty in understanding them, and if they continue to pour in, as we hope they will, it may be necessary for that officer to sit down and study the Scandanavian languages. Being aman ofa cultivated mind he could no doubt soon do so. That Danish settlement is sure to be a great success..- —St. John Tel.
Wa Carrot, a juvenile, was summoned to the Police Court =his morning on com- plaint of Dr. Beer. On the night of the 28th ult. the Doctor was driving into the city by way of Haviland’s Lane. When near the residence of Mr. Haviland he per- ceived two persons on horseback driving to- wards him at a furious rate. One of the horses, rode by a boy named Stanlake, passed closely; but a stirrup of the saddle on the horse which Carroll rode caught in the shaft of the Doctor’s gig, knocked the

A Russian Envoy to Afghanistan.
A Berlin dispatch of the 24th Oct. states that when General Stoietoff and his suite appeared on the northern banks of tha Amu Darya asking for admission into Afghanis- tan, he was given to understand by the Afghan posts on the other side that the Beg sent for his reception having died sud- denly, he must wait. And to wait he had, for a whole month, when admission was at last granted. Once on Afghan soil, he was treated with the greatest distinction. Shere Ali went out to receive Shim on the road, ordering a Royal salute of 115 rounds to be fired in his honor. The number of rounds accorded to the Viceroy of India by the Afghans is only 51. The Russian travel- lers found Afghanistan a poor, mountain- ous country, with bare hills and inundated valleys; the towns are dirty and the people seem destitute.
The Golos, commenting on the last nega- tive answer of the Ameer, says that war between England and Afghanistan is un- avoidable, and that as this will prevent England from continuing her energetic pol- icy in the East, it cannot but be welcome news to all Russians. The Russian Govy- ernment are constructing a telegraph from Samarcand to the Amu Darya. Shere Ali has offered to extend the wire to Cabul, a proposition which probably is already being carried out.
