UPEI to Open Campus in China

A new partnership has been developed between our great, small university and two universities in China. Vianne Timmons, one of the leading coordinators of the project was available to comment in regards of the new venture.

students would then get credited at

our university.”

This offers Chinese students a peek at how our university oper- ates, and one of the advantages UPEI’s new program has over other universities is that if the student does not choose to come to the island, or if there are troubles with their visa, the credit can go towards the Chinese university. The final degree however, is a UPEI degree and the students would have to come to our island after their first or second year of study in the pro- gram, depending on which of the universities they are registered at.

The first university in the program is Sichuan University. This diverse school offers many pro- grams including: arts, sciences, engineering and technology, law and many others. Sichuan and UPEI have set up a four year program consisting of two years abroad and two years on the island. This uni- versity also has numerous oversea

experts from Russia, Australia, America, France, India and Canada to name a few.

The second school in coop- eration is the Beijing School of Business and Technology, which is actually a school of liberal arts. Beijing offers a first year UPEI experience for the Chinese student in their home country. They get to know how things work by truly being immersed in English educa- tion, based on a UPEI general first year curriculum.

“T really like the idea,” said Zee He, a local student formerly from Beijing. “It gives Chinese stu- dents a chance to really study some-
