Everyone knows the old saying, "There's no- thing new under the sun." We were reminded of this conversational chestnut last week when watching - the soccer. game against ' Mount A. at MacAdam. field. There are a lot of old Panther fans who look back with nostalgia at the past great days of Panther football.

so great but they seem better as time dulls the loses and magnifies "the wins). It'is easy to forget that it isn't so long ago that old S.D.U. rooters were looking askance at the "Foreign" game of Canadian Football ‘that was supplanting the old favourite rugby matches which had been very' successful here. Last Wednesday,» when Alan Stewart opened the scoring with a breakaway in the first half, his bench and the players cheered. The hardful of spectators gave mild and polite applause. as a good stickhandler does in hockey. With recent Panther teams not faring too well in most sports we have often wondered what the campus reaction would be if we, soem season, emerged with a winner. Perhaps this is the year and perhaps soccer is the game. let‘s hope the team gets the support it, deserves.

The Lady Panthers invaded Nova Scotia over the weekend and managed a split in games with Saint Mary's and Acadia. Against SVJU Libby ‘ Baldwin scored the only marker in the first hald but the Santamarians came _ on strong in the final

years...look out! We men- tioned recently that he had a new phrase: "we will not be cutquicken ". After seeing his squad run we can report that they can run and run andrun. We are surevthey'll be dynamic and we look forward to a most entertaining season. we should MAKE the playoffs this year. Next year or the one after we predict the playoffs will make us!

' Added thoughts: As we wrote the above, we were listening to the St. lcuis/Expos game. . . .ug I! We note by the morning paper that Dalhousie Soccer, visiting us on Saturday, is rated as the #1 team in Canada while we, for the first time are nationally ranked, squeeking in as #9. What a win would do for us! We also hear that another hockey goalkeeper prospect is on campus. . .a late late cut from the Winnipeg N.H.L. team. There are some bright spots even in this dark, damp weather!
