CANNING FRUIT CoLp.—A lady

Union has been making some exper'i-| ments in putting up canned goods without cooking. Heating the fruit tends more or less to the injury of the flavor, and the lady referred to has found that by filling the cans with fruit and then with pure cold water, and al- lowing them to stand until all the con- fined air has escaped, the fruit will, if then sealed perfectly, keep indefinitely without change or loss of original flavor.
FactaL NeurarcA.— Procure a half-ounee of the oil of pepperment,and with a camel’s hair brush paint the parts of the face where the pain is felt. It is said to be an excellent application in all forms of pain in the face. A drop ap- plied.to. the cavity of an aching tooth,
and ednfined there with a pillet of cotton \
will arrest the pain.
Sour AprLte JeLty.—Take good sour apples and stew them tender ; squeeze through a coarse cloth, add sugar to, taste, and simmer down as thick as de- sired.
AppLe Puppine.— Make pastry as for apple dumplings, roll it out, lay it on a pudding cloth, pile up some sliced apples, sprinkle plenty of dark brown sugar on, and cinnamon or nutmeg, add half a cup of water, gather up the edges of the paste together, tie the cloth :oose- ly, boil an hour and a half.
For inflammation of the gums, use half a teaspoonful of tincture of myrrh in half a tumbler of woter. Ninse the mouth three times a day.
In a little village in the north of Ireland lived two old inhabitants,known by the names of Darby and Pat, each in his own way rather eccentric, and always ready with a witty answer. New ExpLosivE.—A new explosive agent has just been discovered by Pro- fessor Emerson Reynolds in the labora- tory of Trinity College, Dublin. It is a mixture of seventy-five per cent. of chlorate of potassium with twenty-five per cent. of a body called sulphurea. It is a white powder, and can be ignited at rather lower temperature than ordinary gunpowder, while the effects it produces are even more remarkable,

Rep Perrer Catsur.— Cut up ripe eppers and place them in a preserving Fettle until it is full; then cover with the best cider vinegar and boiled until the peppers have dropped to pieces.
