Changing Times For Canadian Women. | On Jan. 4, 1992 Cleo productions discontinued their

support for the Miss Canada Pageant due to lack of

' finances and opposition from womens groups. Soon

after Miss Teen PEI Pageant ended as it was felt without the Miss Canada Pageant there was no reason

- to hold Miss Teen PEI. ~ On Jan. 22, 1992 Roberta Bondar, a physician with

her doctorate in Nuro Biology was the Ist Canadian women in space. The space shuttle Discovery launched last Wed. with the first science laboratory in space on board. Roberta will be working 12 hour shifts doing experiments in space, six of which are Canadian. The Canadian experiments have to so with space life sciences, seeing how humans adapt to space. The international space laboratory isseenasa ground breaker for the space station Freedom. The construction of the space station Freedom will begin

_ around 1996 and should be operational around 1999 if

everything goes well. Roberta Bondar was selected in 1983 forthis launch

After two years of extensive training she has stolen the show of the Discovery launch as Canada’s first woman and only our second trip in space she had lots — of enthusiasm and dedication.

She is an inspiration to all women that have dreams and goals to fulfil. Roberta Bondar shows us that with hard work and dedication dreams can come true.
