A telegram from Chicago, Ill., reports : it was thought last week that the death rate had reached its maximum, but when the Registrar of Vital Statistics Tomlinson closed his books at 6 o'clock on March 3 he had chronicled the death of nearly 300 people for the past 24 houra. This state- ment shows that Chicagoans mre dying at the appalling rate of one every five min- utes. Streets leading to. the graveyards were filled alt day with funerals. At one place on Warren Avenue three processions became tangled up, and it required several minutes to separate them.

It was estimated that there were 600 bodies awaiting burial in Chicago on the 30th March.

The hospitals are no longer able to take care of the sick, as every inch of available space has been taken by the swarm of sneezing and choking persons which poured into the doors last week.
