Shelmerdine We drove to the shore and found the body anchored a few yards out in about two feet f water. A. H, Clements and myself took the body ashore, and assisted by others placed it where it now lies. I do not iden- tify the body. I was not acquainted with Shelmerdine

Ewen Houston said: T am proprietor of the Sea V iew Hotel. I recovnize the hody of the deceased as that of Cuarlea C Shelmerdine. Hehad been boarding at my house about twelve days. I was svi aware he was bathing on Saturday, al- though he had been in the habit of bath- ing daily in company with Miss Hills and Miss Wilcox. Ido not think he was a robust man, although he did not complain of any special trouble. I was not prevent when he was taken from the water. I first heard of the drowning about noon op Saturday. | saw Shelmardine last at 9.45 that day. He then appeared to be in his usua health. He left in companywith the ladies to go to the shore.

After a short deliberation, the jury re- turned the following verdict:

“That the deceased, Charles C. Shel- merdine, came to his death by accidental] drowning when bathing in the surf at Srackley Beach.”
