The City Clerk was instructed to notify the manager of the Electric Company to place the light on lower Spring Park Road in accordance with the resolution pas-ed at the last meeting cf Council.
Councillor Hooper brought up the mat - ter of Government Pond, and moved that the City Surveyor be instructed to have | the gate repaired 80 that the pond might be flooded and made fit for skating, the cost of such work not to exceed $25.
The resolution gave rise to some dis- cussion, in the course of which it was pointed out that the gate was in a dilapi- dated condition, and it was thought that little or nothing could be dene until the Provincial Government built a new bridge. It was also pointed out that the sewer in the vicinity ofthe pond was not completed and would interfere with the flooding just now.
Councillors Hooper and Crabbe were ap- pointed a committee to see if the work could be done forthe amount named in the resolution, and to interview the Govern-~ ment regarding the bridge,

Councillor Nicholson moved that the Fire Committee be authorizad to have the system repaired at « cost nut exceeding $30 before reportiag to the Council, Councilior Crabbe said the alarm was no good—it had never been asuccess and | never would be. If he had his way he would have the poles and wires cut down and sold for junk. This motion carried and the resolution was withdrawn.

Councillor Horne, in reply to the request of Councillor Hooper for several pieces of plank sidewalk, said he feared it would be im possible to Lave any more work of this kind done this fall as the plank could not be obtained.

Orrawa, Nov 13.—Lo:d Minto has re- ceived a letter from Katin, India, stating that there ie a severe famine there, and the writer would like to obtain the prices of cheap grain, such as wheat, barley and beans, in Canada, with a view of purchase. The Governor-General has referred the matter to the Department of Trade aad Commerce.

Suxpar’s Srorm.—The north shore suffered severely by the storm of Sunday night. At Harris Shore twenty-four oyster boats were driven on the beach, and almost all destroyed. The telephone wires were damaged considerably, but, were soon repaired. The oil house on the east of Summerside was destroyed.

Horet Davies Sovv.—Mr. J. J. Davies bas disposed of the Hotel Davies and its equipment to Mr. Patrick Doherty, lateiy ot the Queen Hotel, Sussex, N. B., who will take possession in a few days. During the time that Mr.and Mre. Davies have been in the hotel business in Charlottetown they have given the fullest satisfaction, and Mr, Doherty, who comes highly recommended, will, it is felt, uphold the! good name of the Hote! Daviee. Mr. and Mrs. Davies will manage the Cliff House during the summer, as usual.
Coat Arrivats. — The following schooners have arrived from the Domin~ ion Coal Company’s mines in Cape Breton, with cargoes of nut, screened and run of mine coal, to Peake Bros. & Co., viz: Fanuy Young, Thetis, Marian and Minnie A. In addition to the above the Dominion Coal Co’s. steamer Douglas H. Thomas arrived this morning from Lonie.. burg to same firm with tthe barge Grandee intow. The Grandee is today discharg~ ing one of tne largest cargces of coal ever landed at this port—having nearly 2,000 tons.
