Know what else I missed? I missed hearing people say, "So you're from away?" I missed jaywalking. 1 _ missed the low-key comfort I feel when I leave my house. I missed potatoes! As much as I loved the buskers at the subway stations, the intense wealth of dance and theatre, the variety of foods and clothing stores, and the openness to everything extraordinary, I me the world of the Island more. :

I started up a coriversation with a

girl who went to Mount Allison, but who

was originally from the Prairies. She said _

that she had travelled everywhere, across Canada, the U.S., All over Europe, some areas of Asia, and beyond, but there is

something timeless about the Maritimes. It's one of the only places left in the world that has gone almost entirely untouched.

We are modern but traditional. We hold strong to our roots but push ~

- towards higher standards of living. We're

confident in our heritage and will progress at our own leisurely pace. There is no need to be in a rush. Development progresses at its own natural pace, and so do we. The

Island is who we are, whether we live here

‘all our lives or not. To grow up here or _ live here for any length of time is to

become this place. Islanders are the Island, and it will come with us wherever we go. No matter how much we sometimes want. to get off, we will always feel the need, eventually, to get back.
