Ingenious Device for the Construc- tion of Flying Telegraph Lines.

W asuinci on, July 25.—The very latest development in field telegraphy aud tele- phony was represented ina handsomely equipped, double borse wagon that was driveu into the court yard of the War Dee partment today forthe taspection of the milltary officers there. The wagon is one of twenty, de-igned by Colonel Scrong, a8- sisted by Majar Dunwoodie, of the signal corps, to courtruct fl ing telegraph jines over battlefields, to maintain army head- quarters in communication with beads of divisions and the ceutral authorities at Washington, This wagon bas four feld~ ing tables, which, wher thrown up form derks upon which are placed a set of tele- graph and telephone instruments. Batter- jee are carried beneath the seats, while the coils of wire are so arranged as to be strung Out as fastas the wagon can be driven. The wagon is intended to be followed by a heavier vehicle containing lances, spare coils of wire, and even sec~ tions of eubmarine cables, eo that po ob- stacle to telegraphic communication will be afforded by a considerate stream of water. MINERS STARVED TO DEATH.

death. The men were sent by Mukuesu to work in a sulphur mine on an island called Cbirripori, off
