Horrible Treatment. IN A CELLAR FOR YEARS,

A Buda Pesth despatch says: A few days ago a policeman entered the house of France Wild, in the suburbs, to arrest him ona warrant charging him with theft. Wiid was not at home, but as the policeman was leaving he heard a moan from the cellar. He tried the cellar door but found it locked. He shouted, and a voice from the cellar begged him to break down the door. He did so, and as the stairs had been removed let himself down with a rope. He found in a corner of the cellar Wiid’s wife, her tace coated with filth, her feet bare, and her clothes were half rotted from her back. A chain twisted round one ankle and fastened to a staple in the stone wall prevented her from walking off » beaten track a yard in length. She said that Wild had chained her there in 1886 because he had found her receiving a call from a man of whom he was jealous, He had kept her there ever since, giving her only bread to eat and just enough water to drink. He had let down the water and breed every morning through a hole in the floor. The condition of the cellar was hor- rible beyond description. The policeman had Mrs Wild taken to an hospital, where | she is now under treatment, Although but | 30 years oid her hair is white and she is bent almost double, and would pass as a woman 70 years of age. Wild has been arrested. He acknowledges
