Lord Roseberry has resigned the office of Under Secretary for the Home Department in the British Government. John Tom- linson Hibbert, M. P. for Oldham and Parliamentary Secretary to the Local Gov- ernment Board, has been appointed his successor. The resignation is due to re- cent expressions of feeling in the House of Commons that the Under Secretary for the Home Department should be a member of the House of Commons.
It is rumored that the Invincibles have been extensively using poison in removing obnoxious persons. The police are investi- gating a uumber of cases of suspicious deaths which have occurred in the last few years, especially the case of a hotel keeper named Jury, of Dublin, who died a fort- night after the Phcenix Park murders. From the disclosures of the informers the authorities do not doubt that Jury was poisoned. The reason alleged for poisoning is that he inadvertently opened a letter ad- dressed to Tynan, who was staying at Jury's hotel. Jury discovered that the letter con- tained directions in regard to a secret society, declaring vengence by the members of the society. Jury destroyed the letter. A waiter, however, informed Tynan that Jury had received a letter for him. It is thought that Jury’s murder was then de- cided on.
