Large Attendance At Eucharistic Congress

The ninth Eucharistic Congress of the Diocese of Charlottetown was held yesterday at the Parish of St. Simon and St. Jude, Tignish. u'Ilt?l'c pastor, Rev. Michael J.. Rooney. and the pnrlshioneers of Tignieh were hosts to visiting Bishops, Priests, Monsignori. me- mbers of religious orders and several thousand lay visitors from all parts of the Diocese.

On the grounds adjoining the church an outside altar was erect- ed for the occasion.

The program for the day began at 7.00 AM. when the children's mass was offered in the church by Most Rev. CL. Neill-gan, Ae- sum.v.ion University, Windsor.

At 10.00 A.M. Solemn Pontifical Mass was celebrated at the altar on the Eucharistic grounds by Most Reverend M.A. lliacEaehern. Bishop of Charlottetown. assisted Rt. Rev. Patrick Mcltiahon. Monsignor MacLellan delivered an inspiring sermon on the Sign- ificance al the Holy Eucharist, and its institution.

At 12.30, following Mass. dinner for the clergy was served in the Dalton School.

The ceremonies were resumed at 2.00 P.M. with the children's holy hour inside the church. when Solemn Pontifical Benediction was offered by Most Rev. G.L. Lan- dry, titular Bishop oi Gnossus. Rev. Edmund Roche preached an impressive sermon suitable to the occasion.

As the Mass Concluded the Blessed Sacrament was carried from the church to the outside altar on the Congress grounds. The procession around the grounds was formed by the various Bishops who were present. the ltionslgni, Priests, Sisters, the Members of the different societies. including the Holy Name Society. Children of Mary and hundreds of the faithful from every part of the diocese.

The magis- trate said he had asked for assist- ance from the Attorney General's Department in this matter but none was forthcoming. He stated the criminal cases have priority and because of this the highway traffic cases are not receiving disposition.

Sudden Death Of Tignish Woman

The sudden death occurred at her home in Tignish on July 7th of Mrs A.J. MacDonald in her 73rd year.

The late Mrs MacDonald. who was a native of Tignlsh. had been in her usual good health up to the time of her passing On Sunday she was stricken with a heart at- tack from which she did not reco- vcr and passed away within a few hours.

She was general favorite with all who were privileged to know her and was at all times ready to aid and assist anyone in need of comfort or help. Of a quiet and generous disposition she will be greatly missed in the community where she spent the greater part of her life and in her home she will be sadly minded by her sur- viving relatives.

She was president of the Tlgnlsh Ladies Aid of the Western Hos- pital a project to which she gave a great deal of her time and at- lention.

Her husband, the late Austin MacDonald. predeceased her some years ago and she leaves to mourn her passing. one brother. William E. Morrissey, Port Moody, B.C.; one son Louis, Red Deer. Alberta: three daughters Kathleen at home; Clare, Mrs Howard 0'Shea. An- glo Road. Tignlsh; Doreen, Mrs. James Callaghan, Windsor. Ont.

The funeral will take place on Thursday morning at 10:00 a. m. with Requiem Mass celebrated by Rev. Alfred MacDonald of Jack- sonville. Florida. a brother of the late Austin MacDonald Interment will be in the Cametey of St. Simon and St. Jude Church.
