—IIAD NARROW ESCAPE- Prompt action on the part of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hiokox, a $011118 couple recently settled atMa-rzate. saved their home and three small children, on Friday, when a bottle of gasoline used at the kitchen range, caught fire. The father toss- ed the flaming bottle through the door, where it made a path of fire and ignited a number of garments on the clothes line. After hastily assisting the frantic young mother to remove the little ones through a window to safety, he made good use "of the water on hand, then pump required printing. Fortunately the wash basin yielded enough for the pur- pose. The fire was under control when neighbors arrived on the scene a few short. minutes aft-er the beginning oi the near tragedy.

One of Chariottetowns known businessmen, Mr. Henderson died early Saturday morning in the Prince Edward Island Hospital after a lengthy and severe illness. He was in his 72nd year.

Mr. Henderson suffered e paraly- tic stroke one year and nine months ago and appeared to be on the road to recovery when a more severe nttiick came six weeks ago from which he was unable to re- cover. His lengthy illness was borne with patience and fortitude.

The body of the late Marven one of four men drowned on May 2. 1947, when some never-to-be- known mishap befell their lobster boat off New London Harbour, was found by Robert Murphy, a fish- erman, Saturday morning. It was lying on the shore of one of the sand hills between Stanley Bridge and Cavendish.

Snodgrass, of Bridge of Weir, Rcnfreiwshire, Scotland, the last surviylng member of Dr. Snodgrass‘ family.

The Call is in a fonrn almost identical with that issued to Pres- byterian Ministers of today and bears over two hundred signatures, many of them those of the fore- bears of members of the congre- gation of the present time. The document has been e treasured possession of the Snodgrass family for almost one hundred years and is now entrusted to the Kirk Ses- sion of St. James for safe keeping.

The Royal Edward Chapter, I. O. D. E. held an impressive meet- ing at Government House yester- day afternoon at 3.15, having as their guests the Abegweit Chapter of Summerside, the Earl of Hills- boro and the Lucy Maud Montgom- ery Chapter of Charlottetown.

The Regent, Mrs. T. G, Ives ex- tended a welcome to Mrs. J. A. Bernard, the honorary Vice-Presi- dent for Prince Edward Island, the honorary Regents, Mrs. H. J. Gor- don and Mrs. W. E. Bentley, Reg~ ents, officers and members of the other Chapters.

Interesting features at this gath- ering included the presentation of the charter to Mrs. Ralph Dumont, Regent of the Lucy Maud Mont- gOlTTYy Chapter by t-hc National Councillor, Mrs. A. H. Roper, and the presentation of a Standard, carried by the Standard Bearer, Mrs. Henry L-apthorn, and present- ed by Mrs. T. G, Ives on behalf of the members of the Royal Edward Chapter. Mrs. Dumont in turn passed the Standard into the hands of their Standard Bearer, Miss Margaret Palmer. Mrs. Roper, Mrs. Ives and Miss Wanda Wyatt, Regent of Abegwelt Chapter, each wished the members of the Lucy Maud Montgomery every success in their new work.

Mrs. Ives gave a comprehensive report on the National Convention held in Halifax last May giving in detail each day's activities, bath from the social and business ang- les.
