A Carco or Cornx—the first for a number of of years—may be seen landing at Walker's wharf, to be ground at the mill of Andrew Moffatt, Esq., who has all the appliances for kiln-drying, grinding, barreiling, &. The mili has been iying comparatively idle for a number of years. It is very agreeable to see it in operation once more. —St. John Sun.

Bia Porato,—We were shown this morning a large potato, grown in the garden of Mr. George Hooper. Euston Street, which mea- sured round its length ten inches, and round its width seven-and-a-half inches. This is sonsidere an extraordinarily large potato so early in the season. It is of the early rose variety.

Ir 18 UNDERSTOOD that the second court- martial relative to the iron clad (rosser Xurfwurst disasters, condemned several of the officers to two years’ imprisonment in the fortress, and to be dismissed; one officer, however, whom authorities consider jculpable, bas conviction, and it is therefore possible that the Emperor will order a third trial.

Mr. Wasntneros Frixp, a painter of mérit, and who has an extended reputation in Great Britain, is in Ottawa, for the purpose of interviewing the Minister of Agriculture re- garding the exhibition of a panorama through- out the towns and cities of Great Britain, illustrating Canadian scenes, to be accom- panied by a lecturer, setting forth the advan- tage of this Dominion as a field for immigra- tion. It is not likely, however, that any finance assistance can be given at present for the encouragement of any such enterprise.

On the 17th a terrific thunder sterm over Ottawa. During the storm a man named Arthur Young, who was work- ing in Mr FPerrley’s garden, Wellington street, took shelter in a barn, which was acon after struck by lightning. The man was knocked senseless, the clothing stripped from his left side, which was severely burn- ed, the course of the electric fluid being marked by a red line extending from his shoulder to his left foot. He is expected to recover.

Being thus sitcated it is well adapted as a temporary home for all business men visiting thecity. A large addition to the east side of the building has just been com- pleted. This, addition greatly increased accommodation. The ‘‘ Revere House”’ now contains over forty sleeping apartments, be- sides parlors, sitting rooms, sample rooms, baggage rooms, store rooms, office--in fact all apartments necvssary for a first class hotel. It has undergone a complete change internall and externally, having been repainted, and, for the most part, returnished in first-class style.
