The monthly meeting of the Earl of Hillsboro Chapter I.0.D.E. was held at the home of the Re- gent Mrs. G. B. Rayner on May 10. One new member Mrs. W. W. Reid was received by the chapter.

The Regent read the statement prepared by a special committee of the National Order outlining the principles of the I.O.D.E. before inductlng the new member. The Educational Secretary. Miss Mabel Adams. reported that 12 volumes of “Everyman‘s Encyclopaedia" had been given to an adopted school. she also sent Empire Day programs to the schools.

There was littie point in North‘: asking for kings after South show- ed one ace — it was not to be con- sidered that South. having passed originally. could hold an ace, two kings and good enough spades to make a grand-slam contract con- celvable. So North simply bid the small slam directly.
