The storm rising about the head of the Prince of Wales is fast obtaining intensity endangering hischances of succession to the throne, if not the existence of the Eng- lish monarchy. No class appears to be stirred so deeply as the great middle class, the real strength of the country, and hitkerto a solid and stolid prop of the mon- archy. Wherever its voice becomes audible its earnest denunciations of the Prince are accompanied by regrets at his nearness to the throne. Representative gatherings of religious bodies, Congregation- al, Methodist, Baptist, Unitarian and Presbyterian have already recorded their condemnation, The boards of guardians are going out of their accustomed paths to discuss motions brand- ing the gambling propensities of the Prince as a disgrace to the country, Severs! Liberal societies have adopted pro- tests against his continuance inthe army. The agitation has every character of per- manence. Eve long the glowing fervor of popular heat must penetrate to the circle vf politics, causing party actionin and out cf Parliament. The Radical members of the House of Commons are opening the attack on the Prince, but they have been warned that Gladstone resents the movement, and that the leaders of the Opposition will be actively shown their repugnance to assort- ing Liberalism with an agitation tending to cast diseredit on the Crown. A group of Radicais meeting concurred in the vpinion that the leaders had mistaken the feeling of the nation, that even on party grounds it was impossible to neglect the duty to take the sense of Parliament on the position of the Prince of Wales and the others concerned. The Radicals will not be content with anything less than action by the military authorities in voicing the same official reproof of tie Prince as Gen. Williams and the Lovett Club sup port the Prince. He met the hearticst greeting at Ascott racea. Sir William Gordov Cummings Las been dismissed from the army.

At the Methodist Conference in session here, Rev. Dr. Douglass strongly condemned the Prince, and Dr. Potts agreed that we must all bow our heads ia shame.

Lord Mulgrave represented the Queen, and Gen. Etlis the Prince of Wales.

Among the others present were Lord Kouutsford and the Right Hon. W. H. Smith, representing the Imperial Govern- ment; the Marquis of Lorne, Lord Brassey, Lord Kimberley, Lord Mount Stephen, Lord Aberdeen, Speaker House of Com- mons, Gen. Laurie, Mr. Colby, Mr. Court- ney, Deputy Finance Minister, and various colkaaial agents resident in London.
