Mrs. Hughes was active- in C. G l- T. work and was also actively a ioclsted in Girl Guide work in the elf-y. She was a valued member of the l. O. D. E. and taught Sunday School in Trinity Church of which she was a devoted member.

Besides her lorrowing husband she leaves to mourn a family oi three daughters. They are, Sally.

FUNERAL SERVICES-The fun- eral of Mrs. Annie Lelghtlzer, widow of Major James J. Leightlzer was held yesterday morning from the Frank Hennessey Funeral Home to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer where “equlem High Mass was celebrated by Very Reverend E. Baldwin. C.SS.R. Rev. David McTague was present in the Sanctuary. Pall bearers were. Messrs. Patrick McTague, W. J. Brawders, Wendell MacDonald, George Berrlgan, James McLeod and S. F. Doyle. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery when ser- vice was conducted by Rev. W. Mann, C.SS.R.

On Wednesday. Oct. 20, a large circle of friends gathered st the home of Rudy Hamilton for a farewell surprise party, as Mr. Hamilton is leaving on Thursday morning to take up his duties at the Bank of Nova Scotla at Charlottetown. His many friends regret to see Rudy leaving as he was president of Almonte Young People's Union and also vice-pre- sident of the Montague Tennis and volleyball Club. He was a very active member in all sports and had a great interest in the welfare of the town. He was pre- sented with an expansion bracelet. The address was read by Miss Myrtle Prosper and presentation by Miss Arletta Roche, music sup- plied by Frances Vuozzo. A lunch was served by the ladies, and af- ter lunch all joined in an old- fashioned sing-song. '1ll'ie very pleasant evening came to a close with all present singing "Good- night Rudy", and wishing him every success in his new position.

—HOME BEREAVED—Centra.l Bedeque and surrounding com- munities were shocked and sad- dened on Sunday morning. Oct. 24th when word was received that Mrs. Melville Johnson, age 5'1, had passed away. Ten days prc- vlous she had suffered a shock and irorn that time on she never regained cui sclousness. Hopes were entertained for her recovery until early Sunday morning when she took another shock and passed away two hours later. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Aifleck, Searletown, a wo- man oi fine christian character. s. member of the Bedeque United Church. and the Woman's Mis- sioiiary Society, and the Y.W.A.. and took an active part in all the work. She was a valued member uf the Central Bedeque woman's Institute and was always interest- ed in community welfare, ever ready to help her friends and neighbors in sickness. She will be greatly missed in her home where she leaves. besides a sot-rowing hubarid. an only daughter, Ruth. and one son. Csrvman. who re. sides in Kazabazua, Quebec, and with whom she spent a. month's visit a. short time previous to her death; one brother Bruce in sear- ietown: one sister (Nellie) lldrs. Arthur Crockett, Calgary, and a number of nieces and nephews. A son Ralph and a brother Henry predeceased her some years ago.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Chester P. McCarthy were held yesterday morning in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Simon and St. Jude, Tignish, before an es. timated congregation of 1.400 people.

Premier J. Walter Jones. whose candidature was also voted upon, received 206 votes thus losing to Mr. Miller who was given 272. Mr. Douglas led the balloting with 420 votes out of 450 ballots. .
