It has been aggravated by Prime Minister Churchill's and Mr. Eden's provisional advocacy of a seat in the United Nations for the de facto government of China.

The general American attitude seems to be that the alleged "soft- ness" is due partly to Britainis commercial interests in China, and partly to the extreme vulnerable- ness of the British Isles in the event of atomic war. It has even been suggested that Mr. Chou pull- ed the wool over Mr. Eden's ey:3 at Geneva and convinced him that the Chinese communists have no aggressive designs on anybody.
