Ovr old friend, Mr. C. B. Bagster, arrived this morning in the S. S. Carroll from Boston, very glad to be “ home again ” after his ex- tended round trip to the Pacific, twite passing over the whole length of the C. P. R. by the Lake Route. On the return journey he visit- ed friends and relations in Ontario, made various trips to Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, etc., and spent a summer (keeping bachelor’s hall) at that pop- ular watering place, known as Onset Grove. Returning to Charlottetown he has resumed his old quarters at Mrs. George MeKay’s on Kent Street, where he proposes to winter once more,

A FARMER named Peter Doyle, fifty years of age, living in Middle Misquodobit, N. S., left his home a week ago last Wednesday to attend a rellgious service at a tarm house four miles away. He did not return. On Monday morning the neighbors were notified and a search was made. After a long and thorough search his body was found lying in a pool of blood about a mile and a quarter trom his own house. He had been shot through the lungs. Nothing pointing to the guilty party Was elicited at the inquest, but it is rumored that arrests are to be made. A young man who bears & very hard name has been employ- ed with Doyle for some months, and it is hinted that he and Doyle's wife may have

The Fisheries Question.

Orrawa, Oct. 25.

A special from Washington states that Secretary Bayard has recently asserted that his government has not through its diploma- fie reépresematives asserted its rights to jurisdiction more than 3 miles from the Alaska shore He does not believe such a ciaim could be sustained, and that t similar claim by Great Britain to Canadian sealers would be conceaded. At- orney-General Garland takes the opposite groand and has maintained the right of the revenue marine vessels to make sei- zures more than three miles from the Alaskan shore. The President’s only in- terference thus far has been to direct the release of vessels seized in opposition to Secretary Bayard’s views. No matter how radical the difference of opinion between the Cabinet officers, a vonflict of authority is mot inevitable. As to the foreign policy and diplomatic claims administration Mr. Bayard is su- preme, unless the President overrules him.

Sudden Death of a Conspirator.

Lonpon, Oct. 25.

Aman died suddenly in South London to-day, and when the police took charge of the body a search of his clothes revealed that he was an American and connected with a dynamite conspiracy. The names of his fellow conspirators were given, but the police vere not able to arrest them because they have not committed any overt act. At the inquest to-morrow over the remains full disclosures regarding the conspiracy are probable.

Mr. Blunt's Case. Dusty, Oct. 25. During the hearing of Sir Wilfred Blunt's case at Woodiord to-day, the Crown coun- sel announced that °English and Irish agitators in Ireland would be treated sunilarly. Lonvon, Oct. 25. The English Home Rule Union has _re- solved to continue holding meetings in Ireland, notwithstanding the arrest of Blunt, and will send another deputation to that country.

Incendiaries Confess.

Kineston, Oct. 25. At the Police Court this morning two incendiaries named Andrews and Newman

pleaded guilty to three offences here. Last night they started fires in a stable, the

Salvation Army barracks and the Third Methodist Church. They say they com- mitted the crimes out of pure deviltry, and inspired by strong drink.

The Inter-Provincial Conference. QueEBEc, Oct. 25.

The inter-provincial conference-sat both morning and afternoon yesterday. Its work will not be finished before Wednesday and it may sit on Thursday. Most of the delegates will attend Winan’s lecture on Commercial Union on Wednesday night. All the delegates attended the citizens ball this evening.

Another Arrest. QuEBEc, Oct. 25.

Ona warrant issued out of the Vice- Admiralty Court to-day, at the svit ot the Dominion Government, the bark Loyal and her cargo were arrested onan action for damage by collision in running down the Lower Traverse lightship. The amount claimed is $45,000.

A Plot Discovered.

Sorta, Oct. 25. A plot has been discovered ‘to assasinate Prince Ferdinand, M. D. Staubuloff and Natichoitch. It originated with the slave committee and Odessa. An emmisary of the committee has been arrested.
